Bill O’Reilly on liberals: “Do you know what the New York Times wants? And the far left want? They want to break down the white, Christian male power structure which you are a part of, and they want to bring in millions of foreign nationals to basically break down the structure that we have.”
Rush Limbaugh on his Operation Chaos, to persuade his listeners to vote for Hillary Clinton in order to disrupt the Democratic convention in Denver: “ This is about chaos, this is why it is called Operation Chaos . . . the dream end, if people say what is your exit strategy. The dream end is this keeps up to the convention. And that we have a replay of Chicago 1968, with burning cars, protests, fires, literal riots, and all of that. That’s the objective here.”
To all the “conservatives” out there: Proud of that? Sound like Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount? His call to feed the hungry, clothe the naked, care for the sick and widows? Turn the other cheek? What about Matthew 15:18, “Those things which proceed out the mouth come forth from the heart, and they defile the man”? Or the entirety of Matthew 25:41 – 45?
Conservatives, do you know anyone who listens to those sources of hatred? And that’s okay by you? And what does that really say about you, who you really are?
The alleviation of victimhood always needs a specifically highly defined target. And it is ALWAYS the most despicable of cowardly devices and acts. The Germans laid all blame on the Jews. And what provoked this topic on BMJ was the July 27th tragedy at the Unitarian Universalist Church in Knoxville, Tennessee. Fifty-eight year old Jim David Adkisson, an unemployed truck driver entered the church with a twelve-gauge shotgun and intense hatred of liberals, who he blamed for his being out of work. By the time he’d been wrestled to the floor, one parishioner lay dead and six were gravely wounded. Jim David Adkisson thought of himself as a conservative, and he loved conservative shock-talk radio.
Let me tell you something about liberals and conservatives. It was the Jefferson liberals who sought to shuck off the reins of King George, the conservatives at the time argued against independence. It was the liberals like Thomas Jefferson and Tom Paine who argued for your right to speak and write freely, to associate with whom you please, to worship how your conscience directed you, free of government restrictions. It was the liberals who struggled strenuously for abolition, and it was the conservative Southern Democrats who seceded from the Union, rather than recognize and abide the lesson taught in the Parable of the Good Samaritan. It was liberals who won for women the right to vote, the conservatives who fought it tooth and nail. It was liberals who sought to end Jim Crow, the conservatives who fought to keep segregation and “separate but equal.” It was liberals who fought and died for the rights of workers to enjoy a decent wage and working conditions and paid holidays and sick leave and health insurance, while conservatives bitterly opposed every gesture. It was conservatives who provided Senator Joseph McCarthy and his inquisition their support, and it was liberals who finally brought him down.
A liberal Democrat, Senator Daniel Inouye of Hawaii, is the ONLY senator to have ever been awarded the Medal of Honor. A liberal Democrat, Senator George McGovern, was the most highly decorated bomber pilot in World War II. A liberal Democrat, Max Cleland of Georgia, lost three limbs in Vietnam. A liberal Democrat, Senator John Kerry volunteered to return to Vietnam. A liberal Democrat, Senator Jack Reed of Rhode Island, is a West Point graduate, served in Vietnam as an Army Ranger in the 82d Airborne. And the list of liberals who have fought and died and bled for this country goes as proudly backward as it does forward.
Conservatives, what is it that you’re so proud of? What is it that you have brought and are claiming to yet bring to the table of American democracy, other than, of course, cowardly fear and hatred?
