"Soon after I arrived to the abbey we found an antique Nazi Lumophon short-wave radio that our German visitors left behind in 1944 in the attic. Father Vladimir cleaned and repaired it and we have been using it to follow current events."
"Then I must make an exception and listen to this radio," said Abbot Andrew.
"Father, if you wish to follow me to the workshop I will take you to the radio. It has better reception at night when the sun's rays do not interfere with the signals."
After leaving the chapel taking their oil lamps they gingerly walked down the snow-powdered cobblestone steps--that reminded them both of confectionery sugar sprinkled on Turkish delights--then on to the next building. They climbed the wood staircase five flights to the top floor. They walked around the terrace and arrived at the door to the lab. Before they entered they shook the snowflakes from their woolen ponchos.
"Welcome to the computer-services section, Father," said Father Cyril upon opening the door. Cyril quickly cleared a chair. "Here, sit, Father. Catch your breath. I will turn on the radio. It is old, but it works fine. The vacuum tubes must become warm. Would you like some hot black tea while we wait?"
"Bless you my son. I see you have a Samovar. Where you find it?"
Conference at the Foreign Ministry Office Athens on December 26, 2012.
"Allow me to introduce the governor of Mount Athos, Mr. Giorgos Apostolos," said the Hellenic foreign minister.
"First of all, why are you accusing my monks of sabotage? What is your evidence?" asked the governor.
"The virus that your monks may have allegedly created is being dubbed 'The Peace Virus.' Along with other evidence I have in my hands, this led us to your Mount Athos. We have not accused anyone, yet. We do have one person of interest that arrived from Moscow approximately six years ago. His name is Cyril Merkowsky and probably resides at Saint Panteleimon abbey, since it is the only active Russian abbey."
"What do you want with the father?" retorted the governor.
"We would like to question him. First we would like to review and analyze the source of this code to see if it endangers the defenses of the United States, NATO, and our allies."
"I am sorry gentlemen; once they become monks we offer them our full protection and immunity. Unless you present us with evidence of criminal activity there is absolutely nothing we can do."
"Most importantly, Sir, we need the code and the people that created it. We want to make sure that it is not malicious or sent from another government to neutralize their enemies and leave them vulnerable to attack."
"Perhaps you want to manipulate it for your own benefit? For your information I have the Russian, Chinese, and Israeli ambassadors' waiting in my office in Karyes. Therefore, I must return this afternoon."
