Francis Harry Compton Crick (8 June 1916 – 28 July 2004) and James Dewey Watson (born April 6, 1928)  Discoverers of the secret of life, that which carries hereditary information, they determined the structure of deoxyribonucleic acid or DNA.  Able to make copies of itself by unzipping, the double helix is joined ladder-wise by four variously sequenced amino acids.  They found the pattern in x-ray diffraction studies conducted by two others working at Kings College in London. Their discovery has been described as the most important biological work of the last 100 years.  It formed the basis of the Human Genome Project to identify physicality and function of each of the approximately 25,000 human genes.  They may be considered the “fathers of modern genetics”.

Jack St. Clair Kilby (November 8, 1923 - June 20, 2005)  Kilby is the “father of integrated circuits (IC’s)”.  IC’s are the low cost circuitry that make possible all of today’s electronic devices.  They are low cost because they are they are very small, use little material, are printed by photolithography, and may contain up to one million transistors per square millimeter.

John Berners-Lee, (born 8 June, 1955) developed a complete list of web servers and “fathered the www. or WEB” for which search engines would be developed and Internet usage would be popularized.  Berners-Lee is an English computer scientist and university professor at MIT.  Overseeing continued development of the Web is the World Wide Web Consortium of which he is a director.  He is thought to be one of the 100 top living geniuses.

Addendum

Any listing of anything is argumentative.  This listing is meant to be.  The reader should feel free to delete or substitute for any of the above.  So too should the reader feel free add others.  But back to the beginning and on to politics.

All things, it is said, eventually come down to economics and politics.  It has been noted that America has been run by no more than 50 people.  You may not view Joseph Kennedy as authority. But consider these observations and ask yourself, who actually runs this country?

The world is governed by very different personages from what is imagined by those who are not behind the scenes. - Benjamin Desraeli, 1844

Let me control a peoples currency and I care not who makes their laws...
Meyer Nathaniel Rothchild in a speech to a gathering of world bankers February 12, 1912. The following year, the newly incorporated Federal Reserve was headed by Mr. Rothchild.

I am a most unhappy man. I have unwittingly ruined my country. A great industrial nation is controlled by its system of credit. Our system of credit is concentrated. The growth of the nation, therefore, and all our activities are in the hands of a few men. We have come to be one of the worst ruled, one of the most completely controlled and dominated Governments in the civilized world no longer a Government by free opinion, no longer a Government by conviction and the vote of the majority, but a Government by the opinion and duress of a small group of dominant men. - Woodrow Wilson letter, after his chartering the Federal Reserve System as a privately owned bank in 1913..

The real rulers of Washington are Invisible and exercise power from behind the scenes. - Justice Felix Frankfurter

The real truth of the matter is, as you and I know, that a financial element in the large centers has owned the Government of the U.S. since the days of Andrew Jackson. - Franklin D. Roosevelt

In politics, nothing happens by accident. If it happens, you can bet it was planned that way. - Franklin D. Roosevelt

You mean to tell me that the success of my (economic) programs hinges on the Federal Reserve and a bunch of f***ing bond traders? - Bill Clinton

By the time you become the leader of a country, someone else makes all the decisions. You may find you can get away with Virtual Presidents, Virtual Prime Ministers, and Virtual Everything. - Bill Clinton

Earlier, about democracy, these two simple democratic principles were stated; citizens having equal access to power and universally recognized freedoms and liberties.  Now ask yourself this, do I, as a citizen really have equal access to power?

Were Machiavelli still alive, do you think he would agree or disagree with any of the following quotations?
