Are we all victims of the Trickster and promises of a better life if we follow the path of money? Where will the money lead? Will we continue to take resources from the grounds of treaty lands and European settlers' farmland? Where will we put the radioactive byproducts of the oil industry? What about water resources? The planet is not manufacturing any more water.


After visiting the jail at the former Fort Yates military post where Sitting Bull was held after his surrender to U.S. military authorities, we took a short tour of the Fort Yates community.

Tribal Headquarters is an imposing structure, but next-door is an aging building that houses the Indian Health Services Hospital.

The handicap ramp is falling part. Concrete is crumbling and it is impossible to imagine how a wheel chair can make it up or down safely. The image offers stark symbolism. Will society settle for patching the holes in the earth and in morality that the scramble for resources brings? Or will we pull together and build a better future for the next generations so that our children and grandchildren will not have to navigate a wounded earth with shattered souls?
