Summer Solstice, June 20, 2013

June 19th, the day before Summer Solstice, Jupiter joins the Gemini Sun as both planets are about to leave Gemini at 29* Gemini: The first mockingbird of Spring.   Mockingbirds not only imitate sounds they hear, they weave the sounds creatively into new melodies.   This is an image of virtuosity, the ability to use everything in life creatively.   We are all going to be blessed by this grace.   Jupiter enters Cancer for the next year on June 25th.

The Sun reaches its most northerly point at the Summer Solstice in the northern hemisphere (the Winter Solstice in the southern hemisphere) on June 20th.   The Light is greatest now, and the Sun will stand still (Solstice) for three days and then begin its journey back to the southern hemisphere.   Now the dark will grow, even though we're just beginning summer.   In many ancient traditions, Summer Solstice is considered the time of the hieros gamos, the Sacred Marriage of Heaven and Earth.    The power of the Sun makes the Earth fruitful, just as our growing consciousness can make our goals and creations powerful.

Capricorn Full Moon, June 23, 2013

   The Capricorn Full Moon occurs on June 23, 2013 at 4:32am PDT/ 7:32am EDT/ 11:32am GMT.

The Sabian symbol for the Sun at 3* Cancer is: A man bundled in fur leads a shaggy deer.   This intriguing image seems to suggest that we might feel "left out in the cold' as we embark on this next stage of our journey.   The deer is a symbol of gentleness, so be kind to yourself during this phase.   Our new path will have tests we have to face, so it will test our willpower to stay the course.

The Sabian symbol for the Moon at 3* Capricorn is:   A Human Soul, in its eagerness for new experiences, seeks embodiment.   There is an inner drive in all people to grow and learn from experience.   This symbol seems to urge us to go out into the world with our unique insight and talents and experience what is there.   Test yourself with your new awareness of the meaning of your life, even if those experiences leave you "out in the cold' for a while.

This Capricorn Full Moon is the second of three SuperMoons, so-called because the Moon is at perigee (it's closest to Earth) and syzygy (it's in alignment with the Sun), intensifying its effect on the Earth and on humans.   The full Moon's energy is also amplified by it occurring so close to the Solstice.   Full Moons bring hidden aspects of our personality to light, for full Moons are times of awareness and insight.   This full Moon shines its light on the new thoughts and understanding we've developed since June 8th's Gemini New Moon.     See if you understand how powerful your thoughts are and if you are using them to protect and value what you love.

Capricorn is the sign not only of our societal structures (finance, government, the art and sciences of our culture), it is also the sign of the Father, just as Cancer is the sign of the Mother.   This full Moon highlights our relationship with family, home and protection.   Are we using these energies to our benefit or detriment?   Capricorn deals with our collective life, just as it is the Father's role to teach his children how to contribute to society in a creative way.   The shadow side of Capricorn is greed, power and fame.   Cancer deals with our home life, just as the Mother's role is to love and nurture her children to be exactly who they're destined to be.   Cancer's shadow is over-protective, over-emotional, and needy, letting fears cut off our authenticity.     Together, this full Moon offers us a chance to see how our society helps us maintain a secure and fruitful life.   If society isn't doing that, then we have to change it.

There is hope that the most positive energies will be invoked during this Capricorn/ Cancer full Moon because the planets form a unique pattern in the sky.   That aspect is called a kite.   A kite is comprised of three trines, two sextiles and an opposition, and it looks just like a diamond shaped kite.   For this full Moon, the trines are between the Cancer Sun, Saturn in Scorpio and Neptune in Pisces.   The sextiles are between the Capricorn Moon and Saturn and Neptune.   And of course the opposition is between the Sun and the Moon--the full Moon.

The kite is very dynamic, and often indicates success (those positive energies).   The special benefits of the trine can be focused through the planet that forms the opposition to one of the planets in the grand trine.   That would be our Capricorn Moon.   Sometimes a grand trine can be insular, but with the kite, there is an outlet for its creative energies and talents.   The sextiles encourage self-expression and provide outer opportunities for that expression.   We become more aware of the creative and spiritual potentials of the grand trine because of that fourth planet.   And we are more aware of how we can use that potential in our social environment.

This kite is comprised of our water grand trine--Sun in Cancer, Saturn in Scorpio and Neptune in Pisces--plus the Capricorn Moon.   A water grand trine seeks tranquility and peaceful exchange.    It opens us to the subtle energies of the unconscious and to our feelings.    We become more psychic because we're attuned to the emotional flow around us.   The Sun in Cancer seeks a stable emotional body, one that is capable of giving and receiving love.   This Sun consciously supports Saturn's task of cleaning up our Scorpio's tendency to hang onto negative feelings and brood about them.   Choice becomes possible if we trust our real feelings.   Then we add Neptune in Pisces to the mix, which opens us to spiritual potentials and visions that can heal our beliefs about ourselves and each other.   This grand trine can help us align our feelings with our soul's mission and open us to a new story that will help us confront the financial, political and environmental issues facing us.   The Capricorn Moon then will pick up on our needs and our visions and find ways to get us the support and nurturing we need for our projects.

Anyone with planets in the early degrees of water signs and Capricorn will be especially attuned to this full Moon.
