The question is, can we be like the old astronauts who flew to the moon and had profound, sometimes spiritual experiences in seeing the unity of the Earth from that perspective? Perhaps the profound experiences of the astronauts were one with the mountaintop experience of Martin Luther King who saw the pattern of unity inherent in the little black boy and little white girl becoming friends, and one with the disciples' vision of Jesus standing on an ancient mountaintop accompanied by Moses and the prophet Isaiah.
Is that world possible? Personnally, I think Alia is on the right track. The question I ask myself is this: Can enough of us question as we ride this cosmic wave to swing humanity into a state of evolution rather than extinction? The way I see it, we have two primary currents behind the tidal wave. One current contains those liberals and conservatives who want to continue living in a world where governments and corporations rule. The other current is more focused on empowering and freeing up individuals, communities, and ecosystems by allowing their evolution to be directed locally from the inside out by appropriate nurturing. Appropriate nurturing is not control and domination. It is behaving in such a way that evolution can unfold. In that regard, it is interesting that Jesus Christ is seen by Christian mystics as the evolutionary potential of humanity.
What holds us back? Chief Seattle once said us white folks were crazy because we had man against woman, child against parent, black against white and so on. Yes, Chief, our dominant (and dominating) world is dualistic. We pit one against the other. This is how we have come to destroy your culture, the Earth, and, ultimately, ourselves.
Is it too late? I don't know.
Babies are more likely to be happy when they are conceived in love. Conceiving in love is the best way to insure a healthy infant. Just so, it is Love that we must focus on cultivating an evolved human from within ourselves if we desire a healthy world for future generations. As any mother will tell you, labor has its joys and its pain. Can we take that pain? Can we relish in our joy? Perhaps our waves of birth pain can turn into an ecstasy regarding what we are giving birth to?
Be both the mother of what you want to be as well as the child that shall lead us into the future of humankind. It is not paradox that each one of us is descendant, child, student, mentor, parent, and ancestor all at once within a larger context of time and the grand span of eternity. It is evidence that we, the flawed creatures, are also the divine co-creators. A new Heaven and a new Earth are emerging through us. In the aches, pains and joys of this labor, we will all be one in our diversity of roles and how we go through the struggle. We can and must labor with others that can laugh while sharing this vision of a peaceful and loving humanity living in harmony on this planet. Is this just part of the pattern of the tidal wave of the cosmos that Alia envisions? It can only work if we wavelets join willingly, lovingly, and bravely in the apparently impossible wave of transformation.
