In 1990 adults spent, on average, 5-6 hours a day watching TV. That’s more time than you spend eating, more time than you spend alone with your spouse and your children. And it’s all wasted. And, if you’re paying for it, you’re paying for advertisers to get you to give up even more of your money. How stupid is that?

Studies done in the 90s indicate that the more time Americans spend in front of the TV, the dumber we get. We read less and understand less of what we read with every passing year. Most Americans can’t write more than few, simple declarative sentences. We’re the least literate people on the planet and we’re continuing to enlarge our lead.

And it doesn’t matter if you watch PBS or FOX, the more TV you watch, the dumber you get. But we seem not to be able to exist without it. It’s on while we eat; it’s on from the moment we wake up ’til the moment we go to sleep. And some people need to have the TV on to be able to sleep. What’s up with that? It’s on while you do other things like clean the house, read the paper (if you can still read), etc. TURN IT OFF!!!

TV is a relationship you have with the b*****d who’s advertising to you, and it takes the place of all the other relationships you might have in life. It’s you and “him”, not your spouse, your kids, your relatives, your friends, your community - just you and him. And that’s the way he likes it. That’s the way he’s programmed it - and you. You’re his bitch. TV is your family and your friend, your pacifier, your titty. It’s your HEROIN.

Turn it off. Think for yourself. Learn to take care of yourself - as much as possible. Aren’t we those “rugged American individualists” we hear so much about? Have a yard? Plant a garden. Grow some food with your kids instead of watching TV. It will not only give you food, but satisfaction. It’s also educational and character building. Form networks with your neighbors for trading stuff, helping out. It’s called barter, the real-deal free trade. But above all, stop supporting the rich at your own expense. Spending more than you earn will not make you one of them, nor accepted by them - if one would actually to aspire to such a thing.

Learn to get over. They get over on you every minute of every day. Two can play this silly game. Stop buying the bullshit they’re peddling to you in order to finance their five homes, limos, private jets, offshore tax havens and on and on and on ’til you could just puke. If you don’t have it, why should you pay for them to have it? Withhold your support. Let them get a job and work for what they get. Let them support their own damn selves instead of living off you.

And whatever you do, if America means anything at all to you, don’t set foot in any Chinese-goods-importing, Big Box stores. Hey! I’m talking to YOU!!!
