Last week, in a move that staggered many long time political sages, Bush blithely turned upside down the Nuclear Proliferation Treaty, which had been supported by six consecutive presidents over many decades. He did this by agreeing that India could double, or even triple its nuclear weapon production.
On the same trip, Bush, who is trying to convince Pakistani head of state General Pervez Musharaff to support Bush's efforts to move against Pakistani-based terrorists, insulted Musharaff by publicly embarrassing him by favoring additional nuclear support for India, Pakistan's long time enemy. Oh, and how does this quite help us to convince Iran that they should put their nuclear ambitions aside?
These are the machinations of a very disconnected person. Unfortunately, we call him Mr. President.
Midwestern folklorist Garrison Keillor said, ...To most of us, the crisis in Washington today stems from a man intellectually and temperamentally unequipped to rise to the challenge. Most of us sense that when, decades from now, the story of this administration comes out, it will be one of ordinary incompetence, of rigid and incurious people overwhelmed by events in a world they don't dare look around and see.
