Bill: Get insurance from another HMO.

Caller: Four times as much. Can't afford it.

B: Get on your parents' policy.

C: Not after graduating college.

B: Find a job where the company will cover you.

C: Dwindling coverages and if available at all there a long delay in getting coverage.

Finally the O'Reilly HMO plan came into clear view.

B: If you were a minority you could claim they dropped you because you are one.

C: I am a minority.

B: Then you say your HMO dropped you because you're a minority.

C: But that isn't true.

B: You have to fight fire with fire.

C: Bill, you've always advocated that you don't respond to bad behavior with more bad behavior.

B: That this is not cause and effect because they've declared war on you. You have to use every weapon you have.

Y'see? Bill didn't call for socialism. He only called for anarchy. Lawlessness. Criminal activity.

Almost makes socialism a more constitutional option, ay?

Perjury to solve your medical conundrum. This from the guy looking out for you - and in a later book - your children.

Wowzers.

What's wrong with the efficient delivery of services?

There appears to be a favorite technique when discussing single payer healthcare and that is dredging up references to socialism. A step in the direction of single payer is a step toward communism.

They fail to distinguish between socialism, the government model and socialism the economic model. Our system of education, police, firemen, the military, and social security are all based on the socialistic model. It is supposed to be the most efficient way of providing services used by a large majority of the citizens. It is scalable, it reduces the number of hand offs and can be measured and monitored by parameters other than profitability. Unfortunately, it sometimes lacks the necessary accountability.

Capitalism is not efficient. There is profit taking at every hand off and the inefficiency is masked by the incessant requirement for growth, to satisfy the additional financial demands of Wall Street.

When there are many competitors, it can be the best way to introduce innovation get from point A to point B. But with consolidation, it can become a very expensive way of delivering services and products; innovation is obstructed because of aversion to risk and the focus becomes maximizing profits. Eventually, the very large tail wags the dog, all the way up to the highest levels of our "Democracy".
