Her speech after the North Carolina and Indiana primaries was a mixed message of “I know I’ve lost” and “I’m going to fight on,” leaving most of us to guess at what she’d say the next day. It’s clear now that she was preparing the way to eventually concede the win to Barack Obama, but hang in there for the time being.
Let’s hope she finally got the message that she scuttled her own chances of capturing the nomination by going negative all over Obama and appearing to be a McCain mole.
Bill, too. He was suffering from a terrible case of hoof-in-the-mouth disease and was looking desperate for her to win so he can’t get one of those hooves back in White House, albeit though the backdoor.
Democrats/progressives aren’t too keen on eating their own. Negative campaigning isn’t their thing either, except when it come to trashing the opposition party.
Another lesson that has to sink in with the Obama campaign is not to be a wuss like John Kerry was, and when McCain surrogates employ the Karl Rove playbook he has to hit back faster than a New York nanosecond and with more power than a punch from Muhammad Ali.
Obama’s people can’t believe for one instant Johnny or Cindy’s pledge to run a positive campaign. McC will appear to, but we can be damn sure he won’t do a damn thing to stop the Karl Rove crap-slinging machine.
Hillary must keep her promise to keep her foot off the negative peddle to the metal when it comes to Obama for the remaining primary season, and stick to what the electorate wants to hear: Her overall plan for the country and attacks on McC.
Hillary has to play by the rules of civility when it comes to Obama, because a Democratic win in November is far more important than one person’s ego or political ambition.
