The right wing slime machine already has the Swift Boating ads written, the ad agencies and actors are hired. All that’s left for them to do is fill in the Democratic candidate’s name. To say that any of these debates are debates is highly questionable. A real debate is when two people sit across a table from each other and discuss their differences on the issues, issues that are of vital concern to the voting public, not the twaddle that’s of no import. It’s not like either of these candidates have huge character flaw or misdeed in their pasts. It’s not like either dodged military service; or disappeared during the last year of their military service; or had their daddy buy them a bogus Ivy League degree; or mowed down a close friend with a car; or shot a friend in the face; or did more than experiment with drugs; or was a lush who never got help to resolve the whys of why he was a bottle-diver; or arrested for drunk driving and had it carefully covered up; say they’re for veterans’ benefits, then vote against them; say they’re against torture, then back the president on torture policies; are for choice one day and against it the next; and all the other things I’ve forgotten. No, neither Clinton nor Obama have those odious notches in their personal resumes. The main stream is losing money and viewers by the hours. If they keep up no one will be watching. If they were smart, which they’re not, they’d put news back where belongs, on the non-profit side of the corporate equation…where it used to be. That goes for the cable news networks, too, which are for profit, but still need to listen, and the Chris Matthewses, Morning Joes, Dan Abramses, Wolf Blitzers and even occasionally Keith Olbermann to knock off the time-wasting trivia and stick with the issues, or your ratings will plummet, too, and you’ll lose viewership. I’d mention Fox News, but why bother? You’re all in a ratings war and fighting to stay alive. Don’t commit ratings/viewership suicide by going for the side dishes and not the meat.
