Insult them by not being prepared to treat them for the trauma they suffer being in a war zone. Insult them by not having an exit strategy. Insult them by making sure that the few in the military who voice their opposition to the war are punished, or come home in pine boxes under mysteriously circumstances. Insult them by lying about their deaths. Insult them by not counting the deaths of those who didn't have the courtesy to die immediately after they were wounded as causalities of war. Insult them by lying about their heroic deeds in trying to avoid capture and subsequent non-rescue, rescue. Then the onus is on the soldier who was in the wrong place at the wrong time to either tell the truth and have a clear conscience, or live the rest of her life with a lie. Insult them further by not tending to their families who are forced to go on food stamps or loose their homes, because their bread winners are serving their country in far off lands. An insult is to pay mercenaries a hundred times more to do the same jobs they do. An insult is serving them tainted food and bottled water while they stand duty in Iraq. An insult is obscene war profiteering at their and our expense. An insult to all of us is taking the National Guard, whose prime objective is to protect us here at home and use them to supplement the standing military. An insult to all of us is sending the National Guard's equipment with the guardsmen, stripping states bare of equipment that is vital to have here when natural disasters occur. The insults to our brave military men and women are as endless as the war is long. Michael Bloomberg should think about what he's saying before the words come tumbling out of his mouth, because he not only insulted our soldiers, but our intelligence as well.
