Painting the devil on the wall.

There are many who believe that our words and intentions have great power. Still others believe those words and intentions can be brought into reality. By spreading words of doom, it could be seen that we are effectively setting ourselves up for our own downfall. This is the root of what some I know call sloppy witchcraft. Effectively, by our irresponsible and reckless use of negative words, we bring the negativity into existence. So why do it?

We have won a political victory. Whether it amounts to the kind of victory you envisioned or not, you cannot deny that we the people made it happen. Not only that, we made it happen against some pretty heavy odds and in the face of unrelenting opposition.

This should be a time for happiness, reflection, and deciding what's the next right thing to do. It is not, in my opinion, the time to get out the flagella and scourge ourselves bloody. There may well come a time for wearing hair shirts, and self-induced beatings with cats of nine tails, but I hardly think now is the time for such self-effacing activities.

Now is the time to celebrate and get ready for the next step on our way. There will be plenty of opportunities to beat ourselves senseless in the future. Let's enjoy this stop on the road. Don't paint the devil on the wall, or he just might hop off said wall and bring his own kind of hell to bear on us all. We just got out of that, if only temporarily. Let's try to enjoy our newfound promise before we start tearing it to shreds, M'kay?

Blessed be!
Pappy

Pessimism

I am reminded of an old Thellwell cartoon. English farmers were renowned for their pessimism and so Thellwell drew a cartoon one year after a particularly monster harvest. A long line of carts is seen heaped high with the huge harvest and two gloomy farmers are seen discussing this in the foreground

"It'll be the worst year I've ever had if this lot catches fire!"

That's the point!

That's the point exactly. Even now, there are more rumblings of things going awry for DUBYA and the usual gang of idiots in the White House.

Not only is Dumbsfeld now history, he's also going to face charges in Germany for war crimes related to the Abu Ghraib prison torture scandal. That's right, this coming Monday, papers are going to be submitted that will call for a war crimes trial against ex Secretary of Defense Dumbsfeld. One can only assume that once those papers get filed, there will be more coming for Dick(LESS) and DUBYA!

Speaking of our great impotent Veep, there are even rumblings now that his head might be on the chopping block by DUBYA for supposedly leading DUBYA astray in reference to Iraq. Now, while I don't necessarily buy that one, it has a rather ominous ring to it. This is especially true when DUBYA gave Dumbsfeld and Dick(LESS) a vote of confidence a few days before he accepted Dumbsfeld's resignation. While accepting Dumbsfeld's resignation, DUBYA took the time to give Dick(LESS) another vote of confidence. I bet Dick(LESS) is waiting for the sound of the other shoe falling.

So, once again, we are all looking down the barrel of political wins the likes of which NO ONE who writes here predicted. Oh, a few predicted a bit of a routing, and most were willing to predict turnover in the House, but as I recall, no one predicted the Senate! Also, no one here predicted for the ouster of Dumbsfeld, nor his soon to be subsequent facing of charges as a war criminal in Germany!

A lot of really fantastic things happened this week. It was and remains a time to celebrate. If you want to wail and gnash your teeth, go hang out with the Republicans who are now sucking on some pretty sour grapes. Hell, if nothing else, at least wait unti January before you start condemning the new congress. Don't light the torches and get out the pitchforks until there is just cause to do so.

Blessed be!
Pappy
