Mad Dogs and Girlie Men

Call them “chicken-hawks” who avoided the draft themselves but now send young American’s to die for oil. Call them “liars” who will say or do whatever is necessary to make and maintain power and an illegal war that is making America less safe and their corporate crony’s rich. Call them “hypocrites” for making laws that regulate the sexual and private lives of others while they themselves are getting down and jiggy with Congressional Pages, DC Madams and in public restrooms.

In other words, tell the truth. Then repeat, repeat, repeat.

If you have the moral fortitude to do this, the house of cards built by your detractors from illogical rants about their moral superiority will come crashing down – exposing them for the frightened little tyrants they really are.

Speaking of courage, here is a challenge to the LGBT Community: why don’t we organize collective acts of civil disobedience? This coming February 14 (it’s on a Thursday), every same-sex couple in America should walk into our local county courthouse and demand a marriage license.

Even better, film a video of your efforts and we will share those videos with the world. If you are asked to leave, just sit down quietly and insist that it is your right to be there. Show the clerk the equal protection clause of your state’s constitution. If enough of us have the courage to simultaneously perform these acts of civil disobedience, perhaps we can force the hand of our oppressors and their silent supporters.

Do you agree that LGBTQ families deserve equal rights? Will you join us on February 14, 2008? If so, please let us know, spread the word and pass it on!

And remember, Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. believed there are "two types of laws: just and unjust.” Thus, it is our duty to disobey unjust laws.

Anything less would simply be un-American.

Rainbow Law is Elisia and Carrie Ross-Stone, lesbian civil rights activists, life partners and grandmothers. We own and operate Rainbow Law, an online service offering legal information and free and affordable legal documents for gay and lesbian families.

We also publish RainbowZine (http://www.rainbowzine.com), a progressive LGBTQ newsletter and we Blog at http://RAINBOWbLAWg/.blogspot.com.

In 2003 and 2004, we rode our bicycles across the country to advocate for marriage equality. Lesbian Grandmothers from Mars, a documentary about the ride, premiered at the Gay and Lesbian Film Festival in San Francisco in 2005.

And if all of that is not enoiugh to keep us busy, we are building our own house with our own hands out of recycled materials. The building project is online at http://www.BuiltfromTrash.com.

Diversionary tactics

Gays and other groups don't realize that now is not the time to mess with identity politics. The Neocons are out to dissolve the Congress and implant Martial law. The objection that Republicans are using the same sex marriage issue as a way of getting votes and that "we demand our rights" is playing into their hands, because then the urgency of the  police state remains in the background. Demanding our rights for same sex marriage or abortion, etc assumes that somehow our democracy will work if we activate it. Democracy has long been dead. Police action is just around the corner and same sex marriage will be simply a moot issue in the concentration camps. What is needed is a mass uprising on a single issue- the destruction of fascism and the implantation of equality-political, juridical and economic equality for all. Gays, feminists, blacks and latinos have simply got to put all that aside and unite or we will all go under.

I am an out and proud gay man...

...and I have been since I began the coming out process in my sixteenth year on this rock. I agree with your article for the most part. Acts of real courage get noticed in this day and age because there are so few people out there who are willing to really put themselves on the line for that in which they believe.

Unfortunately, homosexuality isn't something that shows on the surface, unless one is a screaming queen, or a bull dyke. Those who pass for straight and the closet cases among us insure that those who do stand up will face nothing but repression for doing so.

Look at Larry Craig. Look at Mark Foley. Look at the Revved up Reverend Ted Haggard! Even though these gutless twits are exposing the GOP as the GAY OLD PARTY, somehow people remain stupid enough to think that the men listed are anomilies; exceptions, not rules!

What really has to happen is a mass outing! And by that, I am not talking about taking a wicker basket into a clearing, laying down a red and white gingham cloth, and eathing lunch with the ants. I am talking about exposing gays in the RepubliKKKan party as the liars they are. I am talking about gay prositutes and out and prouders who happen to be fucking right-winged trolls telling all as loudly as possible.

Exposure is the only way we are going to be visible. Who better to expose than those who lurk in darkened corners? What worked for MLK and the civil rights movement of the sixties won't work when outing the repugnant closet cases that continue to defame their own kind. We need another kind of non-violent uprising. We need to bust open the closet doors of the Republican party. We need to add names and pictures to this site. Only by shining the brightest light available upon the retches who continue to hide and throw daggers at their own do we really stand a chance of living in a world where our marriages and relationships are as valid as any other. Anything less is bullshit!

Blessed be!
Pappy
