The Iraq War Morphs Into The Iranian War

As Chomsky says, we own the world.  No one else counts.

Except Israel.

Israel counts so much that every presidential candidate has declared his and her willingness to expend whatever American blood and treasure are necessary "to protect Israel."  There are no limits on the promise "to defend Israel," no matter what Israel does, no matter if Israel initiates (yet again) war with its neighbors, no matter if it continues to force Palestinians out of their homes and villages in order to "create living room" for Israelis.

With this sort of promise, why should Israel ever settle for anything less than "greater Israel"?

Just as the US government launched its illegal invasion of Iraq on the back of lies about weapons of mass destruction and mushroom clouds, the US government claims it must attack Iran or Iran will build a nuclear weapon.  The Bush Regime has learned never to discard a lie as long as it works.

The lie works for the US Congress, the US media and much of the US public, but it is breaking down abroad.  On April 27 the British newspaper, the Independent, responded to the recent US government claim that the Syrian facility attacked last September by Israel in an act of naked aggression was a nuclear reactor built by N. Korea:

"There is no independent way to verify any of this, especially since the installation has now been destroyed. We must rely on the integrity of the Israeli and US intelligence.  That is where we hit a problem. The former US Secretary of State Colin Powell presented similar evidence to the United Nations Security Council in February 2003 showing what we were told was strong evidence of Iraqi storage of weapons of mass destruction. As we all know, that intelligence turned out to be bogus."

A needless war, a country destroyed, all for bogus intelligence.  Why must we repeat our crime in Iran?

Why do we persist in our crime in Iraq?  On April 27 McClatchy Newspapers reported that 50 Iraqi political leaders representing numerous political groups including Sunnis went to Sadr City to protest the siege by the US military.  Why is al Sadr under seige?  He called for a halt to bloodshed between Iraqis, for a "liberation of ourselves and our lands from the occupier," for "a real government and real sovereignty."  However, for the Bush Regime, rhetoric about "freedom and democracy" is but a mask behind which to impose a US puppet government.  Real Iraqi leaders like al Sadr are "terrorists" who must be eliminated.

Why do the American people and "their" representatives in Congress continue to tolerate a criminal Bush Regime that uses lies and propaganda to mask its acts of naked aggression, war crimes under the Nuremberg standard?

Why does the rest of the world continue to receive political representatives from a war criminal government?

What if the rest of the world told the US to close its bases, its embassies, its CIA operations and to go home?

Self-righteous Americans would regard such demands as effrontery!  We own the world.

Paul Craig Roberts, a former Assistant Secretary of the US Treasury and former associate editor of the Wall Street Journal, has held numerous academic appointments. He has been reporting shocking cases of prosecutorial abuse for two decades. A new edition of his book, The Tyranny of Good Intentions, co-authored with Lawrence Stratton, a documented account of how Americans lost the protection of law, was published by Random House in March, 2008.

No, Mother Earth Owns the World

Paul is, of course, being sarcastic, but in reality, the only one who owns the world is Mother Earth, and all beings on this planet are her creations. What does Mother Earth think about one brand of one particular species that is totally out of control and collectively psychotic, that is, the sub-species Americanus Tyrannicus, and which is wilfully destroying large chunks of the rest of creation?

I guarantee you, not very much. It is in our very DNA, put there by the Divine Mother, enlightened Yogis teach us, for us to evolve into higher and higher Beings, spiritually, intellectually and physically. Right now the American goernment and its institutions have totally turned upon this evolutionary stream. The reactionaries are dragging us, not into the animal realm, because animals are really beautiful creatures, but into the demonic realms, what the Jewish mystics of the Kabbalah call the Qlippoth (or Qliphoth). These are the realms of chaos, imbalance, suffering and darkness. Consider them as great vortexes of negative, destructive energy. As like attracts like, they will begin to stick to all of America's negative Karma like a fly sticks to you know what.

Or as the Buddha said, our lives are shaped by our minds. "We become what we think. Suffering follows an evil thought as the wheels of a cart follow the oxen that draw it." The evil thoughts of the Bush Regime, the Pentagon, Congress, certain Supreme Court Justices and on and on have produced a wagon-train of ox carts bound for perdition.

This is what is in store for America collectively for turning its back on its higher spiritual destiny, the destiny in the very DNA of each of us if we would heed the call. So now, as a country that officially embraces torture, war and lies as a way of life, we will reap what we have sown. Mother Nature is not about to let us continue to have our way with her Creation. She is going to make us suffer until we change or ways or destroy ourselves.

60 Minutes led with a lie and then repeated it

The Iranian President never said "Israel must be wiped off the map", yet 60 minutes repeated this lie twice Sunday night.  This article explains exactly what he said.  The author of the linked article politely refers to this gross incendiary lie as a "rumor".

Of course 60 Minutes is not the first to parrot this lie, it is repeated often in every corner of the mainstream media that bombards us every day in the U.S.  The corporate controlled disinformation story lines spewed by those pretending to be the Fourth Estate make the propaganda that Pravda used to produce appear as shining example of excellence in journalism (sarcasm).

Paul Craig Roberts has once again zeroed in on the depth of the danger that is being caused by those who control not only the seats of government here and abroad but also control the flow of information that is the only source of information for most people within the borders of the fascist regimes in the U.S. and Israel.

Re: The Iraq War Morphs Into The Iranian War

Thank you Dr. Roberts for this very compelling article.

Anyone who has been paying attention and with the help of your brilliant work understands exactly what the heck is going on. Middle East hegemony, with the blood of our young and old men and woman who are fighting this illegal and horrific war in Iraq. Many of whom are too credulous and still believe their fighting is just and cannot see through this mesh of mendacity which the Bush junta has woven with the help of a complicit corporate media.  Little do they know what an attack on Iran will bring. They haven't a clue!

I recently spoke with my neighbors Iranian brother-n-law who is now a US citizen. At first he and his family who resides in Iran thought Bush Co. were trying to help them escape the oppressive Iranian regime, in fact they loved George Bush! Now, they're preparing for the worst and the love has turned to apprehension and anxiety. About two years ago I vividly remember mentioning to this man that the Bush administration could be crazy enough to attack Iran and his response "George Bush is crazy, like a fox." For he and his family in Iran, and for that matter America, I do hope he's right.

Winston Churchill and the Jews

Winston Churchill said about Jews and Judaism. "On that system and by that faith there has been built out of the wreck of the Roman Empire the whole of our existing civilization."

His biographer Martin Gilbert referred to Palestine. He truly believed the Zionists would make something special of Palestine.

Previously, western nations such as Germany and Italy have lapsed into barbarity and preemptive war. Is there one serious scholar who blames the Jews for these atrocities?

Similarly, the USA has embarked on her disastrous Crusade for Empire in Asia. How can any serious person believe she acts as our friend in this activity?

Many people could profit by reading Martin Gilbert's latest book Churchill and the Jews.

iran war morphs....

You make the comparison of WWII and the rest of the world watching and waiting, it really does seem to link the two together if you look at the propaganda that the goverment gives the media about terrorists and nuclear bombs is almost like the propagada that the nazis spread. Both are used to cause fear and hatred toward groups of people that are "in the way" of a bigger plan. It wouldn't suprise me if after all is said and done that certain political figures are accused of international war crimes.

Not quite

The US attacks on Afghanistan and Iraq were premised on completely different issues and a good deal of US effort to ensure international consensus. Threats against Iran should be seen in a completely different light: a policy of containment and isolation.

In addition, Afghanistan and Iraq both were 'soft' targets, yet in military and economic terms they are both disasters for the US. An attack on Iran would finish the US off.

However crazy Bush and Cheyney may be, however keen the Israelis may be on a war against Iran, both know full well that Iran is a completely different story with huge costs to both countries that have a large number of their military surrounded by Iranian troops and their allies.

In pure military terms, the US forces are pretty much bogged down in highly vulnerable positions in the region. The fact that the US fleet has become so concentrated within the Persian Gulf itself indicates that no attack on Iran is planned unless the US is planning to have such a large portion of its own fleet obliterated.

So while the Bush clan is quite scary, they are not quite there yet with any military attack on Iran. They simply would not dare.

unlikely

You are overestimating US power. Within 2 years from now, the US will not be able to afford its current military any longer. Your military is in disarray and clueless about which way to turn in the region. soldiers are unmotivated and your public unwilling to support yet another war. Bush is mad but not suicidal.

dig your style though: quite cryptic!

Nonsense.

The US attacks on Afghanistan and Iraq were premised on completely different issues

LOL! What, exactly, do you mean by "premised"? Are you trying to imply that the laughably flimsy pretexts are something other than laughably flimsy pretexts? Paul Craig Roberts has spelled out exactly what it's all about...there's no need to pretend otherwise.

and a good deal of US effort to ensure international consensus.

LOL! A "consensus" of the coerced, that is. Let's not pretend that Bush's wars of agression have any popular support anywhere in the world, except Israel, the land of the puppetmasters.

Threats against Iran should be seen in a completely different light: a policy of containment and isolation.

Iran is a PNAC target for attack and regime change. What do Bush's handlers have to gain by bluffing? In any case anyone paying attention knows that the U.S. is slowly bleeding to death in Iraq, economically, politically and militarily. If anything, the U.S. is containing and isolating itself.

In addition, Afghanistan and Iraq both were 'soft' targets, yet in military and economic terms they are both disasters for the US. An attack on Iran would finish the US off.

Well of course it would. Now, do you think the Bush/Cheney terror team and their handlers care about the U.S.?

However crazy Bush and Cheyney may be, however keen the Israelis may be on a war against Iran, both know full well that Iran is a completely different story with huge costs to both countries that have a large number of their military surrounded by Iranian troops and their allies.

One major problem is, of course, that Bush, Cheney and their handlers are delusional. Another thing you seem to overlook is the possibility that Bush will use nuclear weapons. Bush and Cheney are mass murderers who could undoubtedly kill a million people before breakfast without batting an eye.

Do you think Bush and Cheney give a damn? They're looking at war crimes charges; they're looking at the possibility of a real 911 investigation. What do they care about tin soldiers? They don't care anymore about their own "people" than they care about Iraqis, for example.

So while the Bush clan is quite scary, they are not quite there yet with any military attack on Iran. They simply would not dare.

Yes they would dare. They're delusional. They're completely amoral. They've already gone a long way towards the destruction of the U.S., why should they stop now?

impressions

from the outside looking in on this forum and some other media, this 'threat' against Iran has been going on for years, with the last 2 years being quite intense. Yet, it seems to be a standoff for the sake of having a standoff.

You look to be fanning the flames of war rather than be doing anything about it. This all sounds like part of Bush's psychological warfare, and you seem to be a part of it.

On the ground, the US is seriously stuck in the middle east - i believe you call it a 'quagmire'. Your only 'reason' for a possible attack on Iran appears to be a 'delusional' administration. This is not enough reason to be raising alarms about a war against Iran. We are quite tired of this. Where are the news stories or articles about how you are fighting back? Where are the petitions, demonstrations, lobbying of Congress for a resolution prohibiting an attack on Iran?

If you and Mr. Roberts seriously believe that a war is imminent, then what are you doing about it? If you are so 'right' in your understanding of what is going on, why do you still have a war criminal as a president?

If you REALLY believe it, then stop it in its tracks. Or are you of the opinion that this is GOING to happen, and you are as helpless as Irqi civilians when it comes to the US government?

Quite frankly, I look at Mr. Roberts' credentials, and I see a Reaganite with strong links to the system. He, as much as the administration, appears to be spreading fears of a war. His article can be found everywhere. Yet one would expect that someone with his calibre would be more engaged in stopping the war rather than telling the world that it is going to happen.

And yet more ridiculous nonsense from you.

from the outside looking in on this forum and some other media, this 'threat' against Iran has been going on for years, with the last 2 years being quite intense. Yet, it seems to be a standoff for the sake of having a standoff.

LOL! A "standoff"? The word implies two or more belligerent parties. What the hell is Iran doing to anybody? You see Iran as a "belligerent" here?

You look to be fanning the flames of war rather than be doing anything about it.

You never run out of silly things to say, do you? So if, for example, your doctor tells you that if you don't stop smoking, you'll get cancer, emphysema or some other disease, and you don't stop smoking, and you end up with such a disease, it's your doctor's fault for "fanning the flames of disease"?

This all sounds like part of Bush's psychological warfare, and you seem to be a part of it.

Going back to the doctor analogy: If your doctor warns you about what may happen to you if you keep smoking two packs per day, well, that makes him some kind of "alarmist"? Your doctor's warning about the danger you're in is tantamount to "mind control"?

On the ground, the US is seriously stuck in the middle east - i believe you call it a 'quagmire'.

Stuck only in the sense that Bush et al. simply refuse to get out; not stuck for any morally, legally or practically "justifiable" reason, obviously.

Your only 'reason' for a possible attack on Iran appears to be a 'delusional' administration.

Apparently you don't understand English? Please point out where I said or implied anything of the kind. The "delusion" I'm referring to is obviuosly not in itself a "motive", or as you say, "reason", for attacking Iran; rather, the delusion is what keeps the madmen on their pre-planned destructive course, regardless of obvious consequences.

This is not enough reason to be raising alarms about a war against Iran.

LOL! Yo, Goober, in case you haven't noticed, Bush and his enablers and handlers are apparently following the PNAC agenda, which in essence is all about making the Mideast safe for an expansionist-hegemonist Israel...just as Paul Craig Roberts has been trying to convey.

We are quite tired of this.

Who's we, you and the mouse in your pocket? Well if it's any consolation, I'm tired of it too.

Where are the news stories or articles about how you are fighting back?

Who's "you"? Is that me, personally, or the probably less than 1% of the U.S. population willing to actually see what's happening?

Where are the petitions, demonstrations, lobbying of Congress for a resolution prohibiting an attack on Iran?

Well for that matter, where are the other governments of the world? Where is the UN?

If you and Mr. Roberts seriously believe that a war is imminent, then what are you doing about it?

Glad you asked! I'm trying to warn people that Bush likely intends to start another war this time against Iran; I'm also making preparations to leave the U.S. BTW, other than spread disiformation, what are you doing about it?

If you are so 'right' in your understanding of what is going on, why do you still have a war criminal as a president?

ROTFLMAO! Do you ever say anything that makes sense? Apparently not.

If you REALLY believe it, then stop it in its tracks.

How, with my magic wand?

Or are you of the opinion that this is GOING to happen, and you are as helpless as Irqi civilians when it comes to the US government?

Quite frankly, I look at Mr. Roberts' credentials, and I see a Reaganite with strong links to the system. He, as much as the administration, appears to be spreading fears of a war. Just as I thought

You are stuck in a fantasy world of helplessness against a giant and unstoppable evil force. Get off your couch, realize your own potential and stop being a slave to exaggerated powers. Otherwise, stop claiming that you have anything useful to say. The silliness is all yours my friend! The world has grown up and left your fantasy world behind. Wake up and join a new multipolar world, and if you really think you have anything useful to say, then act usefully too. That goes for Mr. Roberts and his 'magic wand' too! You are strange Harold. And you have little skills in holding a proper dialogue. Quite warlike really.

Iran has the The Sunburn missile

I'm certain the US fleet sitting in the Gulf off the coast of Iran are quite aware of these missles. Would they be willing to risk one of their carriers? There are a lot of lives at risk here both American and Iranian. Do Bush and Cheney even care? That's the question. Why even risk such a heinous attack on Iran? It's insane! But so too are these despots running our country.

Of all the missiles in Iran's armament, the most dangerous is the Russian-made SS-N-22 Sunburn. These missiles are, simply, the fastest anti-ship weapons on the planet. The Sunburn can reach Mach 3 at high altitude. Its maximum low-altitude speed is Mach 2.2, some three times faster than the American-made Harpoon. The Sunburn takes two short minutes to cover its full range.

How much naval fleet maneuvering skill can we expect from Armour career GENERAL M. Dempsey ? Adm. Fallon can be called back to duty if under 65 y. of age . Anyway 400NM is safe from Sunburn, even if fired from Pakistan soil .When calculatig you have to start at V=0 acceleration time to M 2.2 .

However US mil.Hardware has to pass Hormuz Northbound and southbound. If Iran wants to trigger this large scale war development/unfoldement , Iran can , anytime , in Hormuz 2 or 3 Destroyers can be sunk. Also the ones that come subsequetly to rescue, too. Sitting on the ocean's ground , other maritime heavy movements are blocked for years. WWIII at that point and time and at the same time the "ugly direction" that the political wind would shift to according to the book that SEN Obama wrote "audacity of hope".So everybody should exactly know by now, which side this possible (to me impossible) new CinC is on.
