Tell A Friend

By Nancy Babcock (about the author)     Page 2 of 2 page(s)

On September 27, 2006 an accident occurred, that was actually the greatest blessing imaginable to 41 horses that were bound for slaughter on an overloaded two-decker truck. The truck overturned on a Missouri interstate. Three horses were killed in the accident itself, 13 others had to be euthanized on the spot. As horrendous as the accident was, the horses that died there had far better ends than they would have had, had they reached their slaughterhouse destination.

The 25 survivors that were rescued are being cared for by the Missouri Humane Society-most having to spend time in various equine hospitals before moving on to the society's equine rescue ranch. Over 1500 calls have flooded in, many of them offering forever homes to the survivors, therefore proving that there are many places for our horses that are now being slaughtered to go to.

To say that horse slaughter is humane in any way, or that there is no other solution, is a cowardly cop-out at best and more often a deliberate and unconscionable lie, told and perpetuated in the interest of money.

Two thousand horses are dying torturous deaths every week until this bill, S1915, becomes law.

Bombard your senators with calls, e-mails, and faxes today-and every day--until S1915 is released from committee and voted on by the full Senate before this year ends.

The horses can't wait. Stop the killers now.
