• 71% want US-led forces to be withdrawn from Iraq within a year or less.

• 61% support attacks against US-led forces (up from 47% in January 2006).

• 79% say that the US occupation is having a negative influence on the situation in Iraq.

• 58% say that violence would decrease if US-led forces withdrew.

So--a majority of the American people, a majority of the Iraqi people, and a majority of our troops agree that America should withdraw from Iraq. America's own intelligence agencies say the war in Iraq increases the danger of terrorism rather than decreasing it. What kind of idiot would continue to sacrifice America lives in an unwinnable war that makes the world more dangerous? Take a guess.

• "We're not leaving, so long as I'm the president." --George W. Bush, 8/21/06

This is why it is so important to end Republican control of Congress. We need to send a Democratic-majority to Congress with a clear mandate to oppose the continued occupation of Iraq and to impeach President Bush, if that is what it takes to end his war.

We cannot settle for a "phased withdrawal". Secretary of Defense Rumsfeld never deployed enough troops in Iraq to maintain security, so any reduction in troop strength will increase the danger to the remaining troops. We need to move our troops out of Iraq as quickly as possible. Every day that passes means a couple more dead Americans.

• "...I assure you, the problem for 'us' is not an immediate withdrawal of troops. The problem, for those of us with loved ones in uniform, is that our soldiers are fighting and dying for a lie." --Stacy Bannerman, CommonDreams.org, 3/5/06 (Stacey is on the Advisory Board of Military Families Speak Out.)

• Our military is suffering. The future of our country is at risk. We cannot continue on the present course. It is evident that continued military action in Iraq is not in the best interest of the United States of America, the Iraqi people or the Persian Gulf Region. ...Our military has done everything that has been asked of them, the U.S. cannot accomplish anything further in Iraq militarily. IT IS TIME TO BRING THEM HOME." --Congressman John Murtha (D-PA), 11/17/05
