I can’t help but think had Martin Tankleff been in a Texas prison he may not be with us today and now living free. When you see the face of Martin Tankleff and the faces of others who have been exonerated by Barry Scheck and the Innocence Project, you must come to the conclusion that the death penalty has no place in this civil society. Law enforcement agencies, prosecutors and what is presented to the juries have come to the wrong verdict if the defendant is convicted. If the death penalty is applied and carried out upon an innocent person, it is not justice. What it is I feel is state-sponsored murder.
In my opinion true justice for those guilty while protecting those who may be innocent is life in prison without the possibility of parole. This way the defense team working on behalf of those innocent have time to save that defendant’s life and those guilty will spend the rest of their lives in prison which I feel is a fate worse than death itself.
