I find it arrogant that our U.S. officials can say they fear he will be tortured especially when we were the torturers at Abu Ghraib prison.
In reading further into Bush’s statement he cited “debt relief for Cubans” meanwhile our debt to nations such as China and Mexico have resulted in a $10 trillion dollar debt owed by the American people and congress in its stupidity keeps raising the debt ceiling in order to pay for these wars. Where is debt relief for Americans’, President Bush?
There are many times I suppose where foreign leaders could say this to our countrymen as Bush said this to the Cuban people, “Now is the time to stand with the Cuban people as they stand up for their liberty. Now is the time for the world to put aside its differences and prepare for Cubans' transition to a future of freedom and progress and promise,"
If Bush wishes to extend any olive-branch to the people of Cuba, it is up to him to send Luis Posada Carriles packing. It is up to him to extradite Carriles to Venezuela who has consistently called for this action. He does not get to lecture Cubans when we have in our midst a monster that killed many of their countrymen back in October of 1976.
