Now think of this what if scenario, since our ports are not adequately protected as cited by Senator Clinton; what is to stop a terrorist from smuggling in a dirty bomb and attaching it to one of these LNG terminals in the future and exploding it?  That scenario does frighten me and I suspect it would frighten others within my community.

Should this what if scenario occurs, and with the cuts to area hospitals thanks to the federal government; just how will these area hospitals treat the mass causalities?

President Bush has the audacity to demand billions of dollars more to fund his war, yet can strip hospitals of their vital funds should a terrorist attack occur or an accidental blast coming from a LNG terminal.

Say if a terrorist cell decides to carry out their plan during the summer months when more are using the Sound for either boating or swimming, “According to GAO Senior Energy Analyst Jim Turkett, anyone who stands a mile away from the explosion for 30 seconds can have second-degree burns.”  How many citizens and tourists will be affected by this blast should it occur?  What will be the extent of damage done should a terrorist use these LNG terminals as a triggering device for a dirty bomb?

Long Island while spacious has become densely populated due to over-development. I wonder if we have an adequate response team to respond to a worse case scenario that can involve one blast or other blasts. Many of our first responders such as firefighters are volunteers who work other jobs.  They are not paid like NY City firefighters nor do they reside within firehouses.  Given that, they may not be within the range to respond to an attack like this.

President Bush loves to instill fear by stating if we quit in Iraq, the terrorists will follow us here.  What happens if they are already here, sitting patiently and waiting for the right scenario such as a Broadwater terminal to be built.  That thought terrifies me.

In closing, are Long Islanders sitting ducks should this terminal and others like it come to fruition and can we face our own cauldron of chaos?  After September 11th, the Bush administration created the Homeland Security Agency and it is about time that our homeland is protected.
