The plan was that UEP affiliated egg producers who complied with the guidelines would earn the right to sport a logo saying "Animal Care Certified" on their egg cartons.
But after hearing about actual farm conditions from animal groups, the Better Business Bureau said, "animal care what?" and told the Federal Trade Commission the certification logos were misleading advertising.
The FTC agreed and now the logos are only allowed to sport a redundant "United Egg Producers Certified" designation.
A designation which could start to be squeezed out by "cage free."
