I cannot believe these spokesmen actually believed what they were saying. They must have been told what to say because surely no intelligent person could spontaneously spout such utter garbage.

I would contend that all four suicides were caused by the cessation of hope.
And the cessation of hope was caused by the poisonous current American policy and culture. Increasingly, I am seeing the duplicity, doublespeak, avoidance, grift and corruption demonstrated by the Bush administration, reflected in cubelife. The Guantanamo detainees have been denied representation, charges, communication with their families and any hope of release. Plus infliction of solitude, torture, and God knows what else.
