Maybe we could start by limiting the amount of time someone can remain in government. No more Senators like Strom Thurmond or Ted Kennedy. No more career politicians. Two years, maybe four - you're out. And after you leave once, you can't come back. That would get rid of cockroaches like Cheney and Rumsfeld. Absolutely no campaign contributions by any corporations, and if CEOs or CFOs contribute as individuals, their companies can't do business with the government. No more pork barrel projects. Absolutely no back door deals. Absolutely no lobbyists. (There goes 50 per cent of Washington right there!)
So - with those ground rules, we can get rid of the political graft, but what do we want for this country? Is there any way to build a consensus? A viewer wrote to me with some very good points, the best of which was, "Are we "evolved" enough as a race to really come together and create a better system of government?"
She continued, " I have hope for this and yet when I see the mudslinging that comes from both progressives and conservatives, I have to wonder. ... Can't we stop talking about the idiots who are in office and the policies they are supporting and voting on and instead begin speaking amongst ourselves as private citizens and ask, "What do I want? What kind of a system do I want to see in place? What are my values? What kind of a world do I want to see for myself? For my children?"
So I'm putting it out there for the American people. What do you want? How do we create it? Are you willing to risk your lives to make it happen?
The scattered groups of people who work on the Internet, in patriot groups, in separate communities, and even on the airwaves, all of them are doing something. But it isn't enough. The American people must come together to take back this country, to make it what the founding fathers envisioned - land of the free. It would take a massive gathering, a collective coming together, which would mean real change for most people.
Before we can create something new, or, in this case, go back to the way things were designed originally, we must be willing to risk everything, including our lives.
I wonder how many Americans are willing to risk anything at all.
