Darth Cheney, Warmonger and Fascist

This is the most frightening piece I’ve read some time, along with Justin Raimondo’s latest column on antiwar.com that draws upon it. Raimondo citing a recent CNN interview with Seymour Hersh links Cheney and Deputy National Security Advisor Elliott Abrams (the most powerful neocon presently in the administration) to U.S. support for the Sunni Fatah al Islam militia in Lebanon as a means to weaken Hizbollah. “George W. Bush,” he declares, “is totally out of the loop” in what Raimondo calls “the Cheney administration.” MORE

Speaker Pelosi, you are betraying the trust of the American people, and even worse than that, the trust of those who are actually fighting this war and are donating to the Democrats instead of the Republicans - which is the only way the troops have of showing their discontent with Bush and Cheney. When you explain “why” impeachment is off the table, please include a synopsis of how you and fellow Democrats will “hold this administration accountable…” Don’t tell us here, but send a message to the troops who are protesting this war in the only way they can, plus the resignation of some of our best Generals (Which seems to have been in vain…) - who you and the rest of Congress are ignoring, as well as the oath you took to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States!

Yesterday, Daniel Ellsberg wrote an article titled: ‘A Coup Has Occurred’ It’s a sobering glimpse into what has already happened and awaits us if our cowardly Congress doesn’t act immediately to impeach or indict Bush and Cheney, but it won’t happen as long as we have people like Pelosi and Reid guiding the Democratic Party; for all practical purposes, our system of checks and balances is dead and stinking - rotting away with the rest of our freedoms and liberty. It’s a sad day when the bulk of our Congress are nothing more than con-artists who will say and do anything to get elected - and then betray all of those who trusted them with our future.

Let’s face it, the Democrats have betrayed America - and I don’t believe we will ever see an election in 2008. It’s time to heed the President’s declaration of September being “National Preparedness Month” - but how do you prepare for the death of democracy?

I am nothing more than a patriotic American that is doing whatever I can to further the cause of democracy, the rule of law, and am absolutely outraged on how the Bush administration is defying our Congress, the Constitution, and the Bill of Rights! Footnote: I write in a style that I believe is appropriate in today's world where we can't trust the Mainstream News Media, and rather than concentrating on one article alone, which may or may not receive the exposure and emphasis it should, I prefer to meld several relevant stories together, that each taken alone may not expose the entire situation, but when taken-in as a whole, tend to give the reader a better understanding of the subject. One article or story alone does not represent the "Big Picture" - but when several are effectively tied-together it often reveals a trend or broader view of the subject matter that is important to completely understand any given situation. http://justanothercoverup.com/

Well, I agree wholeheartedly with almost everything you say

here. "Betrayal" is really precisely the right word for the Democrats.

I do however disagree with you on one relatively minor point. At the end of your article you express doubt that there even will be an election in 2008. Many people on the Internet, who have been paying close attention to events, and are sick in their hearts about what has happened to our formerly decent country, also say "there won't be a 2008 election." So you have lots of company there, in that opinion.

But I'm quite confident there will be an "election," as scheduled. The American population is pretty ignorant, and will swallow almost anything they're told. But a president getting on national TV & saying, "OK folks, here's some news: there isn't gonna be an election; I appoint myself President for Life, so get used to it" -- even the American population of today would realize something's wrong with that.

The people in charge know how far they can push things. They know it would be over the top to try something like that. So, we'll have another fake election, where 2 big-business pro-war candidates will campaign, and make speeches. There might be some dirty stuff with voting machines, & the usual attempts to disenfranchise minorities, etc. But it will look like an election, and the media will make it sound like one.

I sincerely hope you are right.

Richard;

I sincerely hope you're right, however, if you look at what Bush has enacted via Executive Orders and a disaster plan that is so secretive that even Democrats on the appropriate oversight panels are not allowed to read it - it has to make you wonder... Bush has changed the martial law doctrine substantially, built God knows how many internment camps in the US, and essentially has everything in place to make the United States a police state on his order alone; why do you enact "laws" if you don't plan on using them?

Further, no matter how you parse it, Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld, and several more are technically guilty of war crimes. There is little doubt that the Bush administration has committed several felonies, some so serious that if prosecuted to the full extent of the law could result in a death sentence - either by US law, or without question if he and his cabal of criminals were handed-over to The Hague.

When you take those maters into consideration, how do Bush and Cheney plan to protect themselves from prosecution once they are out of office? There is something terribly wrong when a President refuses to allow Congressional oversight, essentially allowed an email system to be used to circumvent the proper federally mandated rules and regulations - and has violated almost every law we have as it pertains to our Constitution, The Rule of Law, and the Geneva Convention. I will be happy to post the links and substantiation for my allegations if you like, but for those of us who regularly read alternative news sources - it's already a well established fact.

There are over a million Iraqis’ who are dead because of this illegal war, thousands of America’s finest, and the only way the United States will ever recover any semblance of respect with our allies and even our adversaries is to insure that these crimes are prosecuted. Frankly, because our Justice System is broken almost beyond repair, and because of the huge drain on the population having to witness such a judicial nightmare and the associated costs, I’m in favor of handing them over to The Hague and allow them to stand before the War Crimes Tribunal. That action alone would elevate our country’s image throughout the world and would demonstrate that indeed, we are a country of laws, not outlaws.

Handing Them Over

How do you expect the process of "handing them over to the Hague" to be played out, when nothing has been done in the last seven years to even publicize their crimes?

International criminal tribunals like those held in Nuremburg are only possible after a war, when the defeated countries are finally held accountable, and those formally in power are captured at the point of a gun.

Not necessarily...

This is an interesting story I found just by Googling Rumsfeld and War Crimes. You don't have to wait until the war is over, especially if starting the war itself was a crime:

WANTED FOR WAR CRIMES Rumsfeld Lawsuit Embarrasses German Authorities

Former US Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld could face charges of war crimes after a lawsuit was filed against him in Germany. Now Germany's Federal Prosecutor's Office has to decide whether it will investigate.

A German lawsuit is causing headaches for Donald Rumsfeld.
Zoom
AFP

A German lawsuit is causing headaches for Donald Rumsfeld.

A 384-page document is currently sitting in the offices of Germany's federal prosecutor in Karlsruhe -- and causing headaches for the authorities there. They never asked for it, but now they have to deal with it. The only question is how.

The reason the authorities would be quite happy if the lengthy document would simply go away is because it is a lawsuit against 14 powerful men and one woman. Donald Rumsfeld, the former United States Secretary of Defense, is one of them. Others include Alberto Gonzales, the current Attorney General of the United States, CIA director George Tenet, and Lieutenant General Ricardo S. Sanchez, the US general who served as the commander of coalition forces in Iraq from June 2003 to June 2004. According to the document, these members of the US elite violated both international law and the United Nations Convention Against Torture in Abu Ghraib prison and the Guantánamo Bay detention camp.

A Betrayel Contest!

We seem to have a contest between the Democrats, misled by Ms Pelosi, and the Republicans, misled by Bush and Cheney.  They are each attempting to betray the Constitution and the citizens of America worse than the other.  Why this has come about I am unsure.  Could it be they are both competing with each other for corporate favors over the bones of Americas dieing carcass?  All of them took solemn oaths to protect and defend us and the Constitution from clear and present dangers.  Very few of them have kept any of their oaths while seemingly trying to outdo each other at destroying this country and the world.  This last bit with Congress "okaying" a war with Iran is just unbelievable.  Why don't they just hop in their SUV's and head to Fort Knox to pilage the rest of our country's wealth.  I think we should at the very least vote out almost all incumbents for the next 20-30 years in an attempt to purge this infected government of it's diseased members.  Maybe by then they might consider listening to "We the People" instead of the crooks they support now.  More Americans should run for office.  At least then we might stand a chance at sharing the wealth!

Crooks, suckers, and lazy cowards

How can a nation full of crooks, suckers, and lazy cowards ever be betrayed by anything?

Who are you referring to?

That was a pretty general statement; I disagree that we are a nation of "Crooks, suckers, and lazy cowards." Granted, there are several thousand, if not hundreds of thousands that meet that criteria - especially the Neo-conservatives and chicken-hawks that have never been under fire in their lives yet promote war that they will only sit back and watch and profit from - if it doesn't blow-up in their faces and we find ourselves in a nuclear holocaust.

What about our troops? Are they "Crooks, suckers, and lazy cowards?" Or the Generals that have resigned in protest to Bush's policies... Heroism takes many different tracks - and there is a groundswell of opposition to this administration that is growing by the day - so who exactly are you referring to?

Signing alone.

Almost every day I go out and sit in a lawn chair holding signs that say things like: "Republicans Return to their Own Vomit" or "Bush Ordered 911" or "Misery Makes Republicans Rich". I live in Laramie, Wyoming where Matthew Shepard was murdered a few years ago. My car is covered with a blizzard of similar signs always pointing out the criminal nature of the Republican party, etc. Yes, my car has been vandalized in some slight ways, but so what.

Laramie is a university town with a lot of academically talented people, and yet, not once has anyone had the physical courage to do what I do. No matter how educated or sensitive you think you are, without physical courage (when it is needed) you are basically as backward as any hillbilly - maybe worse.

Republicans consist of crooks and suckers feeding on one another (They are mental and moral cowards). Liberals are physical cowards. Too scared to think and too lazy to find out. (They're greatest fear is to feel hatred, so they are happy to feel fear and anger in a sort of perpetual paralysis. The truth is that only hatred is capable of feeling any sort of real thought or action.)

Then again there is the problem of being stuck in some bureaucracy in fear of losing one's position or someone's respect.  When the economy collapses, you'll find out what all of that was worth.
