A writer is a rogue goose. All other gees fly in a flock formation; every goose knows his place and time for honking. The rogue goose is undisciplined. He leaves the formation indiscriminately to have a look at it from aside. He roams back and forth, takes a peep at the leader, honks a little bit from behind, distracts everyone and writes on what he sees. Time passes and as he wants to return back to his place he discovers someone else there. Thus he either has to wait until they land for rest...

You do not have to be smart

or even to be Mr. Carey for that matter to understand that it is   a personal thing happening. The judge is black and he most certainly does it because something must have happened between him and the laundry people. Both sides obviously keep it under the rug but it shows.  That's what should be investigated first and foremost.   This again has nothing to do with liking or disliking immigrants, marrying ones, hard work of the Koreans, lemonade, barbeques, MacDonalds, Sopranos and whatever Mr. Carey might have forgotten to put into his  article above.  Something happened between those people and now  one of them is pulling the power. A jerk? Most likely. But  pulling the power is one of the things we all do in the US, right? Ask GW. So,  if someone uses the system for his own personal vendetta, that someone  does  the usual thing, sorry.

Jerk

BULL!!!!!!!  there is a problem between these 2 people  the problem is that this jerk thinks he is so important  that the cleaners  need to be punished for a simple mistake. This bozo is out to ruin them.  Can you really believe that this is racial ???  If it was this guy would have rev al and jesse screaming at the tops of their lungs.  This so called judge is just using the system for revenge  he knows he cannot win but means to break the cleaners bank acct.

I do not know

if it is racial or not and neither do you, I suppose.  As for Rev. Sharpton and Jesse Jackson they  cannot interfere if both parties in the conflict  do not even mention the issue. It might be something else. It might be a personal  issue, some historical stuff, whatever, which prone that person to behave so  seemingly irrational. But  the official way of explaining it does not hold water. A good, thorough investigation by some reporter is in order.  Otherwise each of us will believe in his/her own version ( as we usually do, unfortunately). BTW,  I  have been a supplier and a customer for many years and let me tell you- there is a  lot of very vindictive people who will never hesitate to do harm to you  just because  they think you did something to them and in many cases they never explain what you did.

Been around the block a few times.
Blue PilgrimBeen around the block a few times.

This is a judge

who doesn't know the first thing about the law. First, lawyers and judges try to keep this sort of case out of the court and settled by negotiations. It's also waste of the court's time -- is, in fact, a frivolous case -- for which the judge can be brought up on charges. Beyond that, a tort should filed which represents actual damages -- no pair of pants is worth such an absurd amount. It's also obvious that the defendants would not have the money to pay anything near that amount.

In short -- yes, the judge is not competent -- not as a judge, not as an attorney, and not even as a citizen with just a smattering of legal knowledge.

PappyHarpist, unemployed blue collar worker, and Bush basher living deep in the heart of Texas.

No, the worst part...

...of this case is the fact that it got to a docket. Clearly, this is as frivolous as they come, and then some. Clearly, this was a mistake, not an attempt to destroy this man's world over a fucking worthless pair of pants. Clearly, this is bullshit! Had I been the judge, I'd have laughed the case right out of court. Then I'd have begun proceedings to disbar the moron for unmitigated audacity.

Let's hope that happens. I know I have my fingers crossed.

Blessed be!
Pappy

Two Careers Ruined

There is a saying in the military that a court marshall ruins two careers, the accused and the officer that brings the charges. For by bringing charges he is admitting he can’t control his own men with less than the threat of prison.

For a judge to sue over a pair of pants is fine if the dry cleaners lost the pants he should be reimbursed. But to sue for 50 million dollars is to say, I can’t be fair! I refuse to be impartial I am vindictive and unable to manage my own affairs without the force of law.

This is the irony, he’s pooped in his own career any decisions made from the bench might now be appealed arguing the judges fairness and competence. It’s not unusual for warring litigants to throw huge numbers at each other but to get on the stand and cry about your lost pants or for that matter letting the issue go to court shows gross incompetence by a judge who should be removed.

Justice lost

The tragedies go beyond one vindictive little man.The way this story played out on international media has to be a national shame. Most articles were couched in the “it could only happen in America” file.More than an absurdity, which it is, it has to be an international inditement on the entire US legal system. Given this system has taken a beating in Australia and elsewhere over the “Military Tribunals”… There has even  been some talk of suing the US for giving Kangaroo (our national icon) courts a bad name.Perhaps the US system needs a filter a pre trial system that can weed out frivolous cases like this or a system where if this “jerk” (your apt words) looses he is obliged to pay all relevant costs. It might be appropriate to run an international follow up story showing this ‘judge’ in his new EAS (external advancement system) as a crossing guard. (If one was to be as vindictive as he then a career in the shuttle program might be considered…as a heat shield for the shuttle) Clearly any judge that is so disposed to such outrageous behaviour is unfit to sit on the bench. On a serious note, the US needs to show how the system is supposed to work. This international confidence building is necessary for trade with other countries. The world is will be just that little bit more reluctant to deal with or visit a country where the legal system is perceived so capricious or arbitrary ( so vindictive and open to abuse).

Panurg must....

not know any Koreans or the Asian mindset.  They won't say anything, it goes against the grain.  The judge exploited this.  The judge is a complete idiot and if I just bet if one were to study him they would find he is:

1. Racist

2. Jealous

3. Greedy

My better half is Korean-American and after over two decades of marriage I pretty much understand how she and the Korean mind works in general.

To try and explain it away as something happened between the two is to try and gloss over the judge's infantile behavior.
