The Crisis of Our Time

There's a name to describe where we're trying to get to. World 5.0. It's the idea of an operating system applied to our cultural systems. It's 'world' because it needs to work globally and it's 5.0 because we've had four previous major global cultures (operating systems). They are 1) hunter/gatherer, 2) farmer/clansfolk, 3) colonial/city-state and 4) industrial/nation state.

Now it's clearly time for a new O/S. World 5.0 proposes using our combined thinking as the brain, the Web as the backbone, and our kindredness as the heart of World 5.0. We need to look at our problems holistically, and recognize that we can't stop corporate excess without fixing our government. We can't fix terrorism without fixing fear mongering through nurturing and education. We can't consume indiscriminately and not expect harmful consequences. We can't continue to neglect and hurt each other and expect health and peace for ourselves.

The new O/S must be based on realities - for starters the acknowledgement that Now is the only time there is. This simple realization gives us a fresh perspective on everything. And, it follows that being happy now is a goal we can all share. Then maybe someday we'll realize that in rejecting fear, in feeling and expressing love, our happiness is best achieved. Imagine that.

World 5.0 is based on principles that can be applied universally - Integrity, Justice and Balance. Without such a base we cannot tackle our massive issues and promote the goal of creating the greatest level of happiness for the largest number of people.

This does not happen easily, but it is happening - mostly under the radar. Our plight is substantial, but this crisis provides the much needed opportunity for substantive change. For a new framework for our cultural systems. For a better day.

So let's go. Whatever we call it, let's promise to ourselves to keep our eye on the ball - profiteering and government policy. And to keep the other eye on where we need to be to restore our personal health and our cultural wholeness. Here. Now. Learn what you will. Do what you can. Be who you are. It beats watching the hounds on Faux News.
