The real issue here is not whether Craig is gay, or even if he may have committed a misdemeanor. The issue is that he does not have the integrity of his word. He pled guilty to breaking the law…and then tried to take it back when the incident became public. He promised to resign…and then decided to keep his seat and his committee appointments, at least until the Senate Ethics Committee has its way with him, as Barbara Boxer has promised.

No matter what happens, Idaho will probably field Another Republican Senator in 2009. And the Big Tent Republicans will continue to give lip service to equal rights while quietly loathing homosexuals who dare to emerge from the closet, however reluctantly.
