“I AM bitter! I’m diein’ here, and’ I think this Dr. Omaba . . . Well, at least he’ll listen to me, and talk to me with respect.” “Yih . . . mehbih so, but alls a same: he’s a blackun, an’ he’s an uppity eleetiss. Nah doan git us wrong he-ah. It’s not we minds his bein’ black so much . . . Nah, we kinds-a even maht lahk the guy, iffen he wuzn’t so uppity eleetis.” The point I’m struggling to make is that, when you’re facing truly dire circumstances, why on earth would you not want one of the elite looking into the dire circumstances that are dragging you down? By the way, “elite” is defined as: 1. the most highly qualified people: An elite military squad. 2. A group or class enjoying superior intellectual, social, or economic status: An elite collection of academicians. --- Ed Tubbs
