Similarly, the if Iran ultimately ousts its theocratic leadership and returns to the democratic path so abruptly derailed by the CIA two generations ago, it will be because its own long-suffering people made that change, not because of the American military and America’s blustery leaders. In fact, American politicians and generals can only delay that day by their threats and by any actual ill-conceived military action.

Islamic Republic of Idiots - The IRI - of Qom.

Please correct your TYPO mistake unless you think that

"And I agree that the mullahs who rule Iraq with an iron hand are a despicable bunch of bigots and misogynous sociopaths ".

And also read up about Mossadegh the opium addicted leftist idiot that was in bed with the Tudeh party of the communist Russia.

This is an ignorant statement not borne out by the facts

The elected government of Iran was overthrown because it had nationalized Iran's oil. Now that may have been seen as a Communist act, but it was not, anymore than was Britain's nationalization of healthcare.

By the way, if addiction were grounds for CIA overthrow, John Kennedy should have been overthrown, as well as several other presidents, and Bush should never have been elected (oh yeah, he wasn't elected).

Let's take this further...

Far from being an opium addict, the government of Mossadegh, when it came to power, actually took steps to end opium production in Iran, which was a significant producer. After he was overthrown in a CIA-led coup that installed the Shah, opium production was restored and continued until the overthrow of the Shah by the Islamic revolution led by imam Khomeni.

There was an attempt by the CIA through misinformation, to paint the ousted Mossadegh as an opium addict and a Communist, but neither charge had any basis in fact. It was typical ham-handed propaganda of the type the CIA was famous for, and the above letter-writer has bought it, hook, line and sinker.

In 1951, before he acted to nationalize Iran's oil, Mossadegh was named Time Magazine's "Man of the Year." Its quote: "Once upon a time, in a mountainous land between Baghdad and the Sea of Caviar, there lived a nobleman. This nobleman, after a lifetime of carping at the way the kingdom was run, became Chief Minister of the realm."

Not exactly the description of an opium addict or a Commie--and Time was a virulently anti-communist publication.

In fact, as prime minister, and earlier as a government official in various capacities, Mossadegh was opposed, often bitterly, by Iran's communist party.
