Even Kansas Senator Sam Brownback who lobbied for federal funding for the Freedom's Frontier National Heritage Area has admitted that wide-spread support for the project is lacking in Missouri.
In the Jan 23, 2008 edition of the KC Community News , an article entitled "Brownback Visits with Eye on the Economy" states:
"Brownback pointed to the state’s part in the development of a Freedom’s Frontier National Heritage Area — although he expressed regret that Missouri rejected the term “Bleeding Kansas” in the area name — as one attempt to centralize and emphasize the area’s historic contributions".
