Now, reaching the middle of the fifth year of war, America faces two choices: Do we go forward with intelligence and produce a plan for peace, one that addresses not only the military aspects, but the political and economic ones as well? Or, do we watch Iraq go the way of Bosnia before them, with ethnic and sectarian massacres, economic disintegration, and international destabilization.
Only time, and Congress, can tell.
Perhaps before the next war, they’ll call upon peacemakers for advice.
