Were you ever asked if GM food, gassed meat, or irradiated fruits and vegetables were what you wanted for dinner? Did you ever hear a discussion of potentially hazardous food additives on the evening news? A television special? How about PBS, for which Archer Daniels Midland is a sponsor? Have you ever seen food labeled as genetically engineered, gassed or irradiated? No? Well, that’s because Corporate Agriculture and their co-conspirators, the Corporate Media, unflaggingly engineered our ignorance. They have been scared witless that we would stop buying and interfere with their bottom line, shareholder returns, and the CEO’s salary. In Britain and the European Union, informed consumers have stood steadfast against relentless multinational corporate lobbying for the new forms of food adulteration. While Europeans have held their governments accountable, and the bullies of Corporate America, agribusiness, and chemical conglomerates have so far been effectively stopped in their tracks, the entire issue has passed silently beneath the radar of most U.S citizens, even as documented cases of food allergies doubled in the past 10 years. Each of us is now a participant in a quiet, expanding, experiment to which we never consented. Since government, Big Agra, and paid university enablers have committed themselves to the idea that their chosen forms of food degradation are safe, it appears that, now as in the past, the potential human toll will remain officially unacknowledged. The impact on human health and life of high tech food tampering may not be recognized for a very long time.
