Or did you see what really happened, is that why you turned your face away.

Statue of Liberty, Beautiful lady, standing so tall, stands so still,

You've watched over those who give life and you've seen those who kill.

But tell me how you feel now when they gather around you on Independence Day,

Do you feel honoured when they pay homage, or do you just want to walk away.

Statue of Liberty, who brought you to this place and left you to stand alone,

The symbol of freedom and democracy, proud lady with a heart of stone.

Protecting a nations values, listening to them laugh and watching them cry,

But I wonder who will take your place when it becomes your turn to die.

We, my wife (Ros) and I work in the disability sector.  We are passionate about being real in a world that seems determined not to face the reality of life today.  My poetry is sometimes personal, sometimes topical and I write also out of frustration at the injustice and hypocrisy we see daily.  The poems are written in the hope that people's hearts and minds will be opened to the realities today.

Death of our Lady

Blood runs slow on the coldest of nights-

from wounds of words, wicked, precise.

Shattered, forsaken she falls to the ground-

no shots - no screams - no sound.

Blood runs slow on the coldest of nights-

from wounds of words, daggers of ice.
