Now we're again at a global choice point. Because there is no greener grass, only greenhouse gas, and no one at whom to point the finger and pass the buck. Our 21st century dependence on fossil fuel, techno-lifestyles-and past patterns-is simply fueling our drive to become fossils faster. ###
What You Can Do:
Each of us is simultaneously a cause of and a solution to global warming. One aware individual might not make much of a difference. Times 6.6 billion, the impact is, to say the least, statistically significant.
But we will need to shift our perspective and habits. I had a conversation with one fellow who said, "The sun is getting hotter," and dismissed human influence as insignificant to Nature's plan. This may be true. Global warming only matters if we wish life on Earth to continue in its present form. To again quote Einstein, "A problem cannot be solved with the same level of consciousness that created it."
Here are some suggestions from "An Inconvenient Truth" for simple steps you can take to preserve your planet, from enjoying cooler showers to unplugging electronic devices when not in use:

Thanks Amara for the nice article. I think you are very much conservative on your estimate on number of smokers (unfortunately I too smoke! not yet able to kick this habit out of my life). You can peacefully add couple of more zeros, and then take the first digit higher.
In July 2003, speaking to the U.S. Congress, Tony Blair remarked: "As Britain knows, all predominant power seems for a time invincible but, in fact, it is transient. The question is: What do you leave behind?" From OpinionJournal 'It's the Demography, Stupid: The real reason the west is in danger of extinction'. http://www.opinionjournal.com/extra/?id=110007760 (The problem with Tony is he can think, unlike President Bush).
On the same sbject, I found one of the recent coverage of BBC on Amazonian Rain Forest quite interesting (titled Diary: The Amazon rainforest at http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/sci/tech/5184332.stm)
