These two cases, like two halves of a walnut in a nutshell, have a lot in common. When it comes to the possibility that Americans, and our friends in foreign countries, may be tortured, BOTH of these cases increase both the possibility of, and the probable brutality of, torture. There is NO EXCUSE for any person in, or contracted by, the U.S. Government to do ANYTHING that increases the likelihood that another person -- friend or foe -- might be tortured.

I am ashamed of the decisions of the Bush Administration on these issues. Things are getting worse and worse in Iraq, not better. The tactics of the suicide bombers today -- chlorine gas! -- are a new level of horror -- which will TORTURE its victims for the rest of their lives (your lungs never heal from such an attack).

Will anyone break the cycle, if we don't?

Hoping for the best,

Ace Hoffman
Carlsbad, CA
