What can we do? Depression governs our masses, and here is where I wish to offer a few thoughts to empower us with hope, which is even more key to proactivity than breaking the denial above:
1) Politicians want to be re-elected. Therefore, given enough public support, politicians will back almost anything even if only to hang on to their seat in office. Sure the votes are rigged, and we all know it, but there is even a way around that too:
2) Note how many politicians are recently resigning to avoid scandal. Truth of wrong-doing does not like to see the light of day. Talking truth to power will not work for the lone voice, but when the masses stand up and bring the truth to light, it has enormous power. The bare-fanged foxes cower to their dens in retreat when truth is about to dawn TO THE MASSES, such as we have seen in the cases of those in such high offices as Carl Rove and Alberto Gonzales.
3) Again I whole-heartedly agree with the assertion that mud-slinging is ugly and embarrassing besides, and let's please get on with a positive agenda. But sometimes there may also be a place for the "uglies". Boundaries protect everybody, not only the person asserting them, and at times sweetness and light can be the ugliest thing of all by lack of its assertion. Let me get to the point:
Any politician who is complicit with the horrible things above must, as a Constitutional duty, be publicly scandalized to first gather public support, then either be removed from office or at least be held accountable. Our Congress is violating their oath of office to uphold, protect and defend the Constitution---and us, the American people---left and right. If we want OUR America back, then we have got to hold them all accountable, or suffer the consequences which will not be pretty or nice.
4) If "Impeachment is off the table", then what is UNDER the table? What is ON the table? Asking these questions of Nancy Pelosi openly, not just in our livingrooms, may be key.
5) As tools to gather public support and to expose the wrong-doings of those in public office, I suggest the following:
Letters to the editor (most-read pages in the newspaper and read by politicians as indicators of public opinion, according to Moveon.org and the ACLU)
Posting to blogs and forums
Widely sharing independent media
Showing movies and declassified FBI documents (available for downloading on the ACLU's website) to the public at your local synagogues, churches, libraries and in house parties
Asking your friendly editors to write articles making the case for and against impeachment (since editors must be neutral)
Asking your local city council members and County Supervisors to pass impeachment resolutions, which will show public support for the cause and remind politicians that their seats in office may be up for grabs if they don't act on our behalf
Send emails to pro-active friends (not those who will turn against you for mentioning politics) and asking them to forward them
Write to grassroots organization leaders and ask them to get behind the impeachment movement, with talking points as above (if you agree with them) and of course, any talking points of your own.
It is time for Us, the People to take our power back. Depression governs the masses: Don't let it! And if the politicians refuse uphold, protect and defend the Constitution, then We the People will.
