Yet the basis of 16 years of peace negotiations between Israel and the Palestinians have been predicated on the supposed acceptance by both parties of UN Resolution 181 of 1947 that called for partition of the land between the Mediterranean Sea and Jordan River into an Arab state and a Jewish State.
Could it be that Palestinian concurrence with this key UN Resolution had been merely presumed rather than assured?
Either way, the State of Israel can easily correct any ambiguity and underscore its Jewish identity by amending its name to the Jewish State of Israel.
