Indeed, from my (progressive) point of view, most of the anger shown by the screaming teabaggers on the right is misdirected. They want to blame Obama and "government" for the mess. I think we need more, better government, and I think Bush and the GOP are mostly to blame.
But there is one area, I think, where the Left and the Right can agree that our leaders have failed us: the bailouts. From what I hear, many right wing teabaggers are upset at the Big Government giveaway to the banks and Wall Street. Well, certainly, progressives can agree with that. When government is taken over by corrupt private interests, justice is lost. But the problem isn't just government. Nor is it just the corporations. The problem is corruption (money in politics) and the weak laws against corruption.
Angry people on the Left and the Right tend to ignore important distinctions when they criticize their opponents. There is division in the GOP between mainstream corporate Republicans and religious conservatives. There's also division between idealistic (but misguided) libertarians and the rest of the conservative movement. Most libertarians are anti-war and anti-corruption and are skeptical of religion. Many people on the Right are angry at the corruption of the Republican Party. In upstate New York's recent Congressional election Conservative Party candidate Doug Hoffman overtook the GOP candidate Dede Scozzafava. But in that case it seems that Ms. Scozzafava was the reasonable person. Scozzafava, who is pro-choice, ended up endorsing the Democratic candidate, and she recently accused the GOP of lacking "substance". See this article . The Conservative Party candidate was supported by Sarah Palin and seems to be off the deep end.
