Suits are being withdrawn and batted out of court by judges. What I am dern spang dumfounded at is that so many GOP politicians are terrified by Donald Trump, whom they think holds their political futures by the cojones.
Sometimes it could be funny if it wasn't so pathetic. Senator (the Rev.) James Langford, a Republican from my beloved Oklahoma, got all up on his high horse last week and said that he was going to "step in" and find out why the election had not been ascertained.
Today we understand from Langford that he stepped in, but then stepped right back out, joining the Lindsay Graham faction in saying that he saw no reason why the election should be ascertained by the GSA. He did not say he had actually talked to Emily Murphy herself.
One person asked about Murphy said she was an "ethical and moral" person. But none of the sources contacted actually knew first-hand why she was making her unilateral decision to refuse the ascertainment.
The best information indicates that Murphy is using as her standard the 2000 election, the results of which were not certified until a 537-vote margin for George W. Bush was announced, after the recount had been stopped. In 2020, there are at least 5 states (Wisconsin, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Georgia and Nevada) which have faced or are facing legal action from Rudolph Giuliani and his shifting White House legal team, and the smallest Democratic margin of victory involved (in Georgia) is dozens of times the 2000 Florida margin.
Emily Murphy, you have truly earned your asterisk in American history.
