Of course Obama isn't the first American president to use a foreign stage as a campaign tool for trumpeting his re-election prospects.
But this was crass election year politics cloaked as a trip to deal with "nuclear security."
A "real" meeting about "nuclear security" would have had ALL the world's nuclear armed states in attendance discussing ways to make the world nuclear weapons free and destroying ALL their existing nuclear arsenals.
But of course the U.S. with the world's largest nuclear arsenal isn't about to take the lead on eliminating its nuclear arsenal or suggesting ways to make the world nuclear weapons free.
That won't happen even when an American president is in his second term and has no re-election to deter him from being the leader on nuclear disarmament.
So call this "Nuclear Security Summit" anything but a summit on nuclear security particularly if nuclear disarmament is not on the table. That's the only way to bring about real nuclear security.
Best call it a "Non nuclear security summit".
