Evidently, Mr. Beck, who once claimed that his show was “the most well-researched show on CNN”, has lowered his research standards to match those of his new home at Fox News, where the news seems to be whatever they want it to be.
Conspiracy theorists wonder if Justice Roberts deliberately messed up the oath of office because Obama was one of the 22 Senators who voted against Roberts’s confirmation to the Supreme Court. It is hard to believe anyone could be that petty; but he is a Republican and he was appointed by George W. Bush, so anything is possible.
Ultimately, it doesn’t matter if the oath was sworn on a Bible or affirmed without one--or if you liked the music, the poetry, or Obama’s inaugural speech. The Inauguration fulfilled its function. Bush is gone, and Barack Obama is the 44th President of the United States. Hallelujah!

At Sunday’s Inaugural concert at the Lincoln Memorial, Bruce Springsteen joined 89-year-old folk legend Pete Seeger and a half million concert goers to sing Woody Guthrie’s “This Land is Your Land”. Their performance included the seldom-heard last verse of this anthem of the common folk, which is as appropriate today as it was when it was written.
“In the squares of the city--In the shadow of the steeple
Near the relief office--I see my people
And some are grumblin' and some are wonderin'
If this land's still made for you and me.”
After eight years of so-called “conservative” government, millions of Americans can rightfully ask, “Is America still made for you and me?” The rich got richer; the rest got poorer; people are losing jobs and homes; millions have no health insurance; the middle-class is squeezed; the military is strained; the economy is in free-fall; and the only people the Bush Administration “bailed out” were the Wall Street geniuses who caused the biggest economic crisis since the Great Depression.
As a result, the American people have relegated the Republican party to minority status and elected Democrat Barack Obama to take the nation in a new direction. As citizens, we have a choice. We can wait and watch as the Republicans block the changes we want to see, and while the media shifts the blame for the failures of the Bush years onto President Obama--or we can get involved and help our new President make the changes America needs.
You can start by visiting the Whitehouse.gov website. Find out what President Obama is doing, what he plans to do, and how to contact his administration to let them know what you think.
