What Chief Seattle was realizing was that opposites ARE a unified system. This is simply how the original cultures operated. Opposites were united. "E Pluribus Unim."
What a joke! Its meaningless in our world of standardization of everything from goods to education.
Imagine your life if you only had a left side to your body. Absurd notion, isn't it? Of course, the notion of right is interdependent with that of left. Is the independence of left from right, up from down, inner from outer, or time from space any less absurd than the way we treat our fellow human beings not to mention the rest of the planet? What do we become when we destroy our "enemy"? What separates "shock and awe" from "terrorism"? Who do we destroy when destroying Nature if not ourselves?
Bush and Obama are mirrors of one another. Hey, the tragic comedian, Michael Moore, once said Bill Clinton was the best Republican president we ever had. Thus, these opposites of republican/democrat or left and right are indeed simply mirrors of one another.
Dare we shatter the "Magic Mirror" that has us so enthralled?
