What if our heart's goals and visions don't align with patriarchy's expectations? What if our old story is false because it doesn't take into account our soul? What if we let our soul tell us what our story needs to be?
Well, this is the moment we get to choose a new story. Each year at Imbolc, (February 2nd),
the old Celtic cross-quarter day of the Wheel of the Year, we get to see what
new life is awakening within us. Imbolc
is a time of vision, when we honor the returning light. Just as the groundhog pops up to see what the
light looks like, we can go within to find the new light that was born within
each of us at Winter Solstice. Within
that spiritual light is the seed of our future.
But we need new eyes to see with--eyes not shaped by our patriarchal capitalist, consumer consciousness (I like to call it a "flat earth' consciousness) but by the Light of our Spirit. Maybe we need to open our eyes, cleanse our sight and see the beauty that is all around us.
The Opening of Eyes
That day I saw beneath dark clouds
The passing light over the water
And I heard the voice of the world speak out
I knew then as I have before
Life is no passing memory of what has been
Nor the remaining pages of a great book
Waiting to be read
It is the opening of eyes long closed
It is the vision of far off things
Seen for the silence they hold
It is the heart after years of secret conversing
Speaking out loud in the clear air
It is Moses in the desert fallen to his knees
Before the lit bush
It is the man throwing away his shoes
As if to enter heaven and finding himself astonished
Opened at last
Fallen in love
With Solid Ground.

Aquarius New Moon, January 30, 2014
The Aquarius New Moon occurs on Thursday, January 30th
at 1:38pm PST/ 4:38pm EST/ 9:38pm GMT.
The Sabian symbol for the Sun and Moon at 11* Aquarius is: During a silent hour, a man receives a new inspiration which may change his life. This symbol offers us the advice to rely upon our inner inspirations, intuitions and feelings for guidance at the start of new developments in life. It is the cry of Lady Wisdom to listen to her voice, through the vehicle of our creative imagination. We have the answers to our pressing problems. We can solve the climate crisis as well as any other crisis that faces us. We just need the will to do it. So listen within as David Whyte suggests, and find the answers to your questions in your own soul.
Other Astrological Influences
Venus has been retrograde in Capricorn since December 21st and goes direct the day after this New Moon, January 31. She is at her closest point to the Earth and disappeared from the night sky on January 5th and re-emerged as the Morning Star on January 17th. As Adam Gainsburg describes it in his book, The Light of Venus, Venus is in her "birth' phase, a time of a new awakening feminine spirit. The Goddess has returned in our times as we saw when Venus went across the face of the Sun in 2004 and again in 2012. We are in the 2nd of 5 cycles of Venus, which started this time in 2012 and will end in 2020.
Venus went retrograde in the sign of Capricorn, our collective structures. While Pluto in Capricorn has been revealing what is dead and decaying in our culture, Venus' retrograde through the sign has brought the heart of compassion into the story, hoping to change our collective values. Are the values of The Wolf of Wall Street something to emulate? Or can we finally see the emptiness of the capitalistic promise of continuing expansion and exploitation? Hopefully, Venus' retrograde has opened our hearts to a new, more feminine compassion and collaboration, focused on care of the Earth and care for each other.
At this New Moon, Venus will be stationing conjunct to Pluto in Capricorn, opposite Jupiter in Cancer, squaring Uranus in Aries and Mars in Libra. She's part of our on-going revolutionary square and grand cross. We're adding our personal values to the cosmic revolution. Patriarchy often takes what we value and then uses it for its own purposes--just watch the ad that talks about our spiritual essence and then tries to sell us a computer pad! Patriarchal thinking uses the imagination to sell us things rather than learning to listen to the imagination to tell us things about our life. Perhaps Venus will help us stand up for our values as we head into the big grand square that's coming our way in late April.
Venus turns direct at 14* Capricorn: An ancient bas-relief carved in granite remains as witness to a long-forgotten culture. This symbol asks us to unearth what is of eternal value and release what is superficial. We first do this within ourselves and then work together to bring about a new value system and a new paradigm of life, which is soul-full and attuned to the feminine dimensions of life.
