How the American Jewish community navigates these crosscurrents is likely to impact strongly on how my grandchildren feel in 2109 as they contemplate returning to the shores of the Mediterranean for Tel Aviv's bicentennial.
I hope they will still share the pride I feel in the city and country their ancestors helped build. For that to happen, I suspect, the future must be defined more by the hope and thoughtful compromise urged by Barack Obama than the endless conflict being peddled by ideologues in the region and the simplistic notions of blind loyalty being peddled here at home.
