Today's hate crime laws and "bias" drivel are setting up a new blasphemy regime in which criticism and debate, for and about certain protected classes, is being criminalized. The pernicious idiocy of this backward regime is what crushed the very freedom of religion and thought that our own First Amendment was intended to prevent - when this country was founded upon the Reformation's principles.
Today's hate crime legislation sets in motion new witch hunts and pogroms of dissidents, disbelievers and naysayers (as an example, one who argues only three million jews were killed in Germany versus six million). Trial by unelected bureaucrat in a foreign or domestic proceeding means censor, excommunication, employment discrimination and worse for those who believe differently and express their opinion as we were once free to do without threat of criminal prosecution.
And truth is not a defense! If we are not free to make stupid and untruthful statements - due to our limited knowledge, experience, or lack of compassion - then, based on the freedom of our own perceptions about reality, we are also not free to make truthful and incisive comments, to foster debate, to criticize stupidity, arrogance, and economic injustice. Witness the one-worlders who want to make criticism of globalization a crime and heresy.
Forget hate crimes and so-called bias of words alone, we need to celebrate the right to speak freely, however hurtful to others. Hurt feelings may occur with children but certainly not adults and responsible citizens interested in freedom from tyranny and mind control. Grow up!
The idea that we can be fined or imprisoned for hurting someone's feelings or challenging their beliefs is fascist nonsense, a reprise of humanity's worst eras. Absent battery or assault, the outlawing of words and speech is itself criminal, foolish, and an insult to our own heritage and hard-won freedoms.
The irony here is that those who make false and outrageous statements about others often generate support for those attacked. In effect, the remedy appears with the slander in proportion to the outrageousness or untruthful nature of the allegation. In effect, the emotional hate and bias generates its own Karma and punishment, and we can leave it at that

And what of the unprotected classes? Take men for example. Men are often falsely accused of molesting their own children in the midst of dicey divorce cases. The tendency is for these accusation to stick, and generate tremendous unjust harm which later retractions may never completely rectify. This example also highlights a big problem with our media wherein accusations get more press and coverage than any exoneration or retraction. In these cases, the unprotected class may suffer harm for which there is no remedy, particularly under the built-in bias of hate crime laws serving the few. How's that for "class" warfare?
In practice, hate crime laws are counterproductive and set up a regime in which conflict is generated and multiplied, and so promote a new kind of "class" warfare. They work to prolong the expression and give it media legs.
The real idiocy however lies in the realm of religion when, for example, any Muslim cleric issues a religious-edict "Fatwa" against a writer, editor or even cartoonist. Yet those attacked and threatened with death for expressing their opinion do not have the power to issue any equal and opposing, nullifying, "fatwa" of their own. Moreover, in these cases, we seldom see any rush of moderate Muslims to the rescue to challenge these absurd threats which may be taken literally by some of their followers.
In effect, it is a bit like a mafia "don" suggesting that someone should be eliminated, or disappeared... they don't need to say the word murder for their acolytes to get the message. We simply cannot have world in which people issue death threats against those disagreeing with their religious beliefs and practices. If ever there were a hate crime it is these fatwa death threats by radical Islamists who cannot stand the freedoms of Western society.
The utter cave-in of European bureaucrats to "hate" crime nonsense is truly foreboding. We are being catapulted back in time, to an age of book and witch burnings, of excommunication and dungeons for naysayers. Hate crime legislation is not "progressive" in any fashion, it is regressive and harmful to societies ability to advance, it is a return to the Dark Ages from which we struggled to emerge.
In addition, the vagueness of hate crime legislation and its manufacture of protected classes is surely problematic to say the least. The European law and guidance illustrates the point:
"When preparing hate crime laws, the drafting choices of legislators will determine whether the law requires the perpetrator to feel "hate". Part II contains a detailed discussion of the consequences of different drafting choices relating to motive under " Policy Question Three: Defining Motive Hostility or Discriminatory Selection?" 2. WHAT SETS HATE CRIMES APART? As described above, hate crimes are special in that the perpetrator is sending a message about the victim and their right to belong to that society. This means that hate crimes have consequences which set them apart from other crimes and which justify a different legal approach."
Do these people have a hate meter, like scientology's e-meter? Is protesting hate crime law itself a crime? How do you rank on the hate meter? Mild, loud, insulting, criminal? Will they do a brain scan to complete the inquiry? Will they put their thumb on the scale? How hostile are you to the fascist New World Order?
Simply put, hate crime legislation is a crime against freedom of speech, freedom of religion, and freedom of thought. It is today's 1984 Big Brother-ism. Clearly, We have laws for battery and bodily assault against any person. We make a big mistake and generate evermore conflict, however, when we attempt to punish and outlaw words themselves and criminalize thought and free expression - however vile, rude, and distasteful.
