By their nature it was impossible. I asked the church leaders to personally take the responsibility of my failure to follow paranormal directions given me as a result of their counsel.
They refused of course!The problem was that the church leaders claimed a direct connection with God and I was receiving information that was in conflict with their claims to that connection. One or both of us had to be in error. I placed them on notice that at a time certain, if they failed to intelligently communicate with me. I would proceed to follow my conscience. They failed and I proceeded.
For those who thought I came off the wall and out of nowhere on April 2, 1976, there is a long history of effort to deal with church leaders behind it.
The result was an open struggle against the hundred + years of formal policy of the Mormon Church when I ordained a Black male to priesthood in April 1976. Church leaders immediately proceeded to "excommunicate" me for that act of insubordination and yet two years later they followed my example by accepting Black priests within the church. In the interim, the "prophet", Spencer W. Kimball, exclaimed that the [church] "Line of communication [with God] remained unchanged." He was right of course because there had been no communication and that status of non-communication remains unchanged to this very day by his successor, Thomas Monson.
The foundation of most all organized religion is of claims of paranormal experiences of a man with God. In every instance that connection is declared to be a single exclusive weld between that man and God and that any other claim of paranormal experience(s) between any other man and God is of the devil or the man is deluded. Non-provable absolutism is the doctrinal foundation of all organized religion!
From Abraham's paranormal experience with God the Jewish claim of identity with God and being specially favored exists to this day.
However, rejection of the Christ story by Jews who contemplated a future prophesied "Shiloh" or Messiah damns Jews in the eyes of Christians who say that Jews are deluded in their non belief in Christ and can be "saved" only when they confess that He [Christ] is the Son of God or God.
Catholics believe that the Pope is the only authorized recipient of any paranormal experiences [if any] between the church and God. Otherwise the acceptance of the established paranormal prevails. The idea of "saints" when proven and canonized can modify that position.
Muslims pay homage to the former prophets of Israel including Christ but declare that Mohammed is and was God's last holy prophet to be obeyed because of his claimed paranormal experience of being caught up to "Heaven" and communicating with God.
Protestants claim a privilege of being connected to God by the alleged paranormal experiences of Abraham and the prophets of the Old and New Testaments and the Christ story.
Mormons claim a connection with God by way of the allegations of founder Joseph Smith that he had a paranormal experience by seeing and conversing first with an angel [actual timeline history] and later by a claim of a paranormal descent from "Heaven" of God and Jesus Christ speaking to him in the woods behind the family home in upstate New York. From that paranormal experience Joseph learned that he would establish the only true church. The latter claim being published 12 years after church organization with a claim that it was the first not the second paranormal experience.
Succession to the position of "Prophet" within that church became an established principle of seniority after Brigham Young in which a subordinate senior "Apostle" who, outliving others automatically became the next "chosen" leader of the Church. A challenge to that "Law of Succession" was dealt with in a very deadly manner before Young died in 1877.
In the last half of the 1800's, a convert to the church from Wales by the name of Morris immigrated to Utah Territory and shortly afterwards began receiving paranormal "revelations" that he was to succeed Brigham Young as the prophet and head of the church. Morris was excommunicated and yet he continued to gather followers which became an embarrassment to Young. Young sent a territorial military contingent into Ogden Canyon where the "Morrisites" as they were called had established a fortified settlement. The military used cannons to blow apart the fortifications and slaughtered every adult male inside but preserving the females presumably for use as plural wives to pleasure polygamous Elders. Since all of these alleged historical transactions between God And man for Millenniums are and have been based upon claimed paranormal experiences it is a mystery as to why those who believe in such claims whether Jews, Catholics, Muslims. Protestants or Mormons also denigrate any paranormal experiences of their contemporaries which may affect their fixed belief systems.
There can be no doubt that dishonest conjuration lies as the basis of most if not all claims of connection with divine personages especially for the purpose of establishing churches or religious societies tied together by a common bond of lies and fear.
