However, I would like to point out that he is also a co-sponsor of House Resolution 362, otherwise known as the Naval Blockade of Iran Bill, which demands that the White House use all possible options to block refined gasoline from entering Iran. There is a very valid argument that this may give the Bush administration just the edge it needs to provoke an attack on Iran before the election. Either way, Iran is not building nuclear weapons, and to punish the people of Iran, who helped us in the attack on the Taliban and the search for Bin Laden, is not the democratic way to go.

And he didn’t wait a year to sign that one, did he?

But tonight was the final straw. You see, tonight I got a phone call, and it proved that Eric Johnson is WAY overpaid because he went to the well just once too often and way too obviously.

The call was supposedly a conference call with “thousands” of impeachment supporters. So I listened and I took notes, and I got in line to ask a question about impeachment.

I wrote notes on the topics and on the questioners and on Wexler’s responses to them. I figured, how often do you get a chance to ask a question or two directly to a congressperson without getting tased these days. So, I suspended my disbelief, and I took notes and I listened. I hoped. Just like Wexler’s well-paid Chief of Staff figured we would.

As it turns out, every 8 minutes, someone would praise Wexler about his efforts and ask if impeachment is covered in his new book. One person even was good enough to ask when it was published and how could she get one.

Turns out, it was published today. Today.

Today Wexler’s book came out, and as fate would have it, he did his conference call… today as well. And people just happened to ask every 8 minutes about the book (which I guess is because “the people” know that 8 minutes is the average someone would stay on the conference call).

Then, after about 40 minutes of that, another trend started developing, people talking about his campaign and how the republicans must be after him for trying to press for impeachment, so “how could they help him”.

And of course, out came the impeachment/DONATE button all over again.

Not a single questioner stuttered; not a single one had music playing in the background. All seemed articulate and well thought out. And most sounded like they were reading the question.

And then, it was over.

And I sat there like a chump. I had known better than this in Dec. and here I am getting suckered in by this con-artist on his DONATION/BOOK SALES promotion call.

So, Mr. Wexler and Mr. Johnson. I hope you are truly proud of what you have done. You have used the most important issue facing this country today as a sales-pitch; as a marketing scheme. You have provided the clearest example yet of just how base and callous this congress can really be. There is no excuse.

You have shamelessly used the hope and the energy and the determination of millions of Americans to further your own personal cause of making sure you remain in the House for another term. For a paycheck. How much of our time was spent on devising and conducting this vile charade? How much money has your DONATE page raked in? Think you’ll make the best-seller list?

I hope someone taped those voices and I hope someone can prove it was a sham. Just another example of how this entire Congress needs to be fired.
