Unfortunately, people who believe that laws should be in place for these reasons are viewing people with disabilities in the wrong light – as if they only drain taxpayer money and don’t contribute to society in any meaningful way. People with disabilities provide our society with a reminder of what humanity is. Many have become great and famous people in our country, but even those who live their quiet lives in wheelchairs, unable to communicate, have a profound affect on the people around them.
People have applied the concept of social responsibility in the Suleman case in that the mother knew that the risk of her children having disabilities would be higher due to IVF. This is a known fact and many parents still move forward with these births. These are people who want children so much that they are willing to undergo all of these procedures to have them along with much heartache and loss.
