Message Kirk Oakes
There needs to be a secondary process, one of containment and restraint. Below I will list what I have seen work in the past, although I will give you it's been 40+ years ago. This goes hand-in-hand with peace monitors, but they will carry a restraint pole. This "occupy wall", of bamboo preferably, is just a pole. 20 of them becomes an enclosure while 50 of them becomes a stockade. Non-violent restraint and containment, with prior arrangements for an actual hand-off, can win the field. Restraint poles, set side-by-side and buffered by a crowd behind it can contain violent actors at our events without overt violence. **

We would need to have identifiers like armbands, labels or banners for those monitors. We would need to clearly define, before any action, that those poles are not weapons and that if we are to stand, we must stand against the greater threat. It's a two-way street and at some point we need to be more comfortable with the concept of working with the police if we expect them to ultimately work with us. We mist begin to build those bridges NOW.

Let the message be, "we are responsible and we are reasonable". This tactic, you will advertise far and wide. The tactic of catalyzing confrontation at an OWS event will never be tolerated. "You will not bloc without a fair and democratic return block'.

This is one of many ways we can face the issue at hand. Occupy Wall Street, to be effective, must be willing to evolve. That process may take us to places we hadn't anticipated. We are up to that task.

**And as an aide to visualization, picture 20 OWS people holding "peace poles" at waist level. Each pole 10 feet long, each person standing 5 feet from the next, with street participants filling the gaps. What you have, in an instant, is a fence, buttressed by "the people", that will not be breeched.

That is how you excise a cancer from the body, isolation and removal.
