And for many centuries thereafter homosexuality as a minor incident was an accepted part of the lifestyle of Archbishops, Bishops and priests who openly participated in the lifestyle. Antagonism against it did occur but only occasionally and sparsely separated.
After the twelfth century, for reasons not fully understood by researchers, hostility began with a transition from openness to intolerance moving homosexuality underground within the church. Hence we have the history of suppressed priestly pedophiliac abuse of teen age boys [homosexuality] which we can be sure is to this day is still an ongoing incidence in the church.
Notwithstanding the fact that the very first biblical act of God-given right of female sexual erotic orgasm by masturbation was by mother Eve, Christian ecclesiastical leaders have denounced such conduct as a quasi homosexual sin (some say crime) against nature by males and/or females.
In fact theses leaders have taken it upon themselves the right to act in the name of God proscribing all kinds of personal sexual conduct by humans and instilling fear that such conduct will not allow the actor to gain entrance into an as yet undefined “kingdom of heaven”.
Further, they have acted in an abominable combination with government to inflict criminal punishment upon humans by making man made religious notions into civil criminal law thus violating human rights in order to deepen the fear factor and maintain control.
Over the centuries an unknown number of humans surely in the hundreds of thousands have been tortured, publicly beaten, burned at the stake, made to do penance and murdered under color of law [church or civil] for acts within the purview of their own personal privacy and all in violation of their inalienable God given right to the pursuit of happiness.
For example: King Edward II of England was a known homosexual although married with four children. Upon conviction by the church for homosexual conduct, the male partner was publicly castrated with his organs burned by fire followed by decapitation. Edward had a red hot poker shoved into his anus which killed him all of which was done in the name of God, Christ and Christianity.
Neither organized religion nor government has any prerogative to persecute anyone to conform to vague religious notions as to what is or is not proper personal sexual behavior in order to grant or deny anyone the privilege of entrance into the “kingdom of heaven”. It is not the business of civil government and it is not the right of ecclesiastical leaders as their duty is limited to loving the “sinner”; not passing judgment in this life.
Rather than thinking in terms of what God said, we need to be asking the question who said what God said and why? It has been a con game for the benefit of the clergy. By and large that con game has succeeded. But in this day of enlightenment it is time to call a spade a spade and discount the value of the Bible in conducting the affairs of society.
We have garnered enough common sense out of history to know the right paths to follow for peace which will surely please the Cosmos. Our job in this life is to make this life worthwhile for all people. If we do that the hereafter will take care of itself.
Moreover, the Creator of the Cosmos is very secure not needing the worship of anyone nor is challenged or offended by any non belief; “Christian” thought notwithstanding.
